I'm thinking Miami Vice will finally knock Pirates out of the top spot next weekend. I think Monster House will have a decent jump today, but Pirates will likely take this weekend too.

Looks like Lady will be Night's first post-6th Sense failure...

Yeah, doesn't look good for Super Ex. Especially when it couldn't muster up enough business to do better than Little Man's second Friday.

Ivan Reitman sure has sucked balls as a director ever since he made JUNIOR.

Hard to believe this is the same guy who gave us DAVE, TWINS, GHOSTBUSTERS, STRIPES and MEATBALLS.

Wow, that's a pretty kick-ass # and drop for Pirates, especially with four big openers coming out. The last summer release to stay at #1 for three weeks was back in '98 with Saving Private Ryan.

I'm disappointed that Super Ex-girlfriend didn't do better. I thought it was pretty good.

$18 million is by far the worst opening for a Shyamalan opening (first film nonwithstanding). I wonder how this egomaniac is going to spin this when it doesn't break even at the BO.

After the muscles Pirates flexed this weekend, I'm not 100% convinced Miami Vice will open #1 next weekend. I think the chances of it being #1 are still above 50%, but Pirates could still do around $25 million next weekend, which may be enough to take the top spot. Michael Mann's movies don't open huge. Collateral is the highest with $24 million.

I doubt if pirates will be #1 again next week.Miami Vice should do around $20 million and I don't know if pirates will do that much.I don't think they will be shedding any tears if they are #2 next weekend. If anything, they are shedding tears of joy at how much $ potc2 has made so far. I'm guessing it makes around $415 million in the end.

The same way Michael Bay spun the failure of THE ISLAND -- bad marketing, no big stars in the cast.

I think American Pie 2 was the last film to stay number 1 for 3 weeks, but private ryan was the last before that.
What was the last film to do so for four weeks?

Yeah, you're right about AP2. Saving Private Ryan actually stayed #1 for four weekends, so that should definitely be the last one to do that in school-time summer.

I don't think so because 1. it's not playing on nearly as many theaters as you'd think, 2. It opened about $2 million below J&SB, and 3. it opend like a month earlier than most of his movies, which to me means that it will face much stiffer competition than his other movies. With that said, considering it cost $5 million to make and say another $5 million to market, it's going to be a nice money maker, and honestly, that's the most important thing with regard to Smith getting to make more movies. At least that's what's important to me.
