Which movie have you seen more times, Schindler's List or Jurassic Park?

These two movies were made in the same year by the same director. Critics made it very clear which one they liked better. But which one do people actually watch more?

Filmmaker 06-24-06 01:51 PM

JURASSIC PARK, but let's be clear here--SCHINDLER'S LIST is the faaar better piece of cinema; it's just that it takes such a substantial emotional toll on the average viewer that it's much harder to "gear one's self up for" time and time again than the popcorn thrills of JP.

Giantrobo 06-24-06 01:56 PM

Jurassic Park. I still haven't seen Schindler's List.

This post reminds me of a comment Penn of Penn & Teller made while hosting one of those Friday night schlock movie shows on TNT years ago. He said that although CHARIOTS OF FIRE was this high end film with lots of awards, PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE was probably seen and even enjoyed by more people.

Star Wars Guy 06-24-06 05:58 PM

Jurassic Park. No desire to see Schindler's List.

supfool! 06-24-06 06:02 PM

Never seen Schindler's List, going to order it soon here.

nodeerforamonth 06-24-06 06:07 PM

Jurassic Park: 2
Schindler's List: 0

I don't like depressing movies. I watch movies to escape life and be happy, not to wallow in sadness.

The Bus 06-24-06 06:12 PM

I've seen both twice, but I don't own JP. After Lost World, I have no desire to watch any JP movie, ever.

Mr. Cinema 06-24-06 06:14 PM

I've seen both, but I've seen Jurassic Park more times. I'm sure most will pick that one. What a great year that was for Spielberg. Schindler's List wins him Best Picture and Director and Jurassic Park is a mega hit.

resinrats 06-24-06 08:19 PM

I saw Schindler's List once and will never see it again. Nothing in it makes me want to watch it over. I've seen Jurassic Park tons of times due to the action/effects/dinos. Now while I don't watch the whole JP all the time, I do watch if the dino scenes are on.

dpz301 06-24-06 08:24 PM

Jurassic Park it is and nowadays it's on TV all the time. I have Schindler's List, but I think I got it for the sake of having such an important film, and I have seen it once or twice.

Maxflier 06-24-06 08:44 PM

I have watched Jurassic Park many times.
I watched Schindler's List once, and have no plans to ever watch it again.

matome 06-24-06 08:55 PM

I've probably seen Jurassic Park 5-10 times since it came out. Never bothered with Schindler's List.

B.A. 06-24-06 10:08 PM

Schindler's List

The Antipodean 06-24-06 10:16 PM

I don't understand what the point of this poll is. Of course JP would be watched more often, it's far more of a crowdpleaser, even if Schindler is about a hundred times the better film IMHO. Most people watch movies, as someone here in this thread put it, for escapism. And that's all they want.

PopcornTreeCt 06-24-06 11:18 PM

Schindler's List is overrated. It is a well done film but it gets elevated to God-like status in film circles ONLY because of its content. If you ask me, Spielberg's best movie is Jaws and he has yet to top it.

mndtrp 06-25-06 12:20 AM

I prefer Jurassic Park, and have seen it way more times. Schindler's List is good, but too much of a downer.

jaeufraser 06-25-06 12:32 AM

Schindler's List is an amazing film, but popcorn cinema is just more...rewatchable...imo.

So I've seen JP far more times than Schindler's, which I've only seen 3 times.

grundle 06-25-06 08:01 AM

Thanks to everyone who answered and posted!

movielib 06-25-06 08:44 AM

I'm with those who say Schindler's List is by far the better film (and it is not overrated) but not something people are going to watch over and over. In fact that's a no-brainer.

I have seen SL twice and may or may not watch it ever again.

Nick Danger 06-25-06 10:03 AM

I've seen Schindler's list twice, and I'll watch it again someday when I get myself emotionally geared-up to see it.

I watched Jurassic Park once, and I'll never watch it again if I can help it.

maingon 06-25-06 10:13 AM

Jurassic park easily, Schindler's List is a movie you only really watch once or twice. Jurassic Park is a movie that still gets "holy crap" moments even though you say it a million times

Grand Dizzy 06-25-06 11:23 AM

Ha ha, Grundle, this is a very clever thread. :)

It all comes down to: which is more entertaining...

A. a powerful, moving, thought-provoking and heart-wrenching portrayal of the treatment of the Jews by the Nazis during the Second World War, with some remarkable performances.

B. Raaaaaar!

Well, put it this way. I'm a big kid and I've never seen Schindler's list. (Ignorance is bliss.)

fumanstan 06-25-06 11:28 AM

Jurassic Park.

gryffinmaster 06-25-06 11:35 AM

Far Better Film Due to Performances & Emotional Impact = Schindler's List
Far Higher Rewatch Value Due to Entertainment Value = Jurassic Park

slavetotherave 06-25-06 11:53 AM

I've seen Jurassic Park more often, as most everyone else has.

I think a big hinderance to Schindler's List is the running time. It's like what... 3 hours? I wouldn't say the movie is a downer, though. I think it's more inspiring than anything else.
