I'm biased towards Batman, but there is no chance I'd pick Batman over Superman in this. Yes, Batman has the better style and better villian, but there is just no comparing that to Reeve's performance and the epic feel the viewer gets from watching Kal-El land then morph into a teenager and then finally, the Clark persona in Metropolis. Great film all around.

The bigger question will be.....

Batman Begins or Superman Returns?
;)

BuddyRevell 06-19-06 01:13 PM

Superman all the way. I like the first Batmat but Superman is a film I can watch over and over again. Batman didn't hold up for me as well as Supes did.

Mr. Cinema 06-19-06 01:14 PM

Superman easy. It also has better repeat value, imo.

fumanstan 06-19-06 01:15 PM

Batman. Luthor/Otis/Superman flying around the world always drops Superman down a notch for me.

No, that would be the narratively inert Burton Batman.
I don't know of anyone who originally saw that as an adult (over 18) and still feels it is a 'good' movie.

Greg613 06-19-06 01:25 PM

Superman was the better film in my opinion, but I loved both movies.

Numanoid 06-19-06 01:48 PM

In order of greatness: Superman > a million other movies > Batman

wm lopez 06-19-06 02:00 PM

Lead actor hero= Chris Reeve
Lead bad guy= Gene Hackman was funnier now, I know Jack should have been funnier.
Babe= Valerie Perrine, Lex Luthor's girfriend over Kim Basinger
Music= John Williams theme, can anyone hum the Batman 1989 theme?
Story= even

matome 06-19-06 02:01 PM

Superman.

That argument is so old, and I have been hearing thats the same reason I still love Star Wars '77 & Empire Strikes Back. I still love the movies, because they are classics. Well, they are classics to me.

Movies that have fond memories that don't pass the test of time:

The Karate Kid. Loved it at 11 years old, can't watch it now without cringing, but still fun to think back to 6th grade and seeing it on Prism every day after school. So in someways you memories argument holds weight for some movies.

Superman has its faults, but it still a much better movie than Batman. For all the talk (at the time) about Burton's Batman being a dark movie, it's actually rather cartoonish... not as bad as the Schumacher entries, but still a bit too goofy for me. Superman has its share of silliness, too, but at least there's a solid core of a story there.

OldBoy 06-19-06 02:43 PM

Supes 78

i know what you mean...i just watched the Batman SE recently and didn't do that much for me.

How about Superman IV: The Quest for Peace vs. Batman & Robin? As in, which was the least horrible? :)

no contest!

Superman is far more timeless. Batman has too many missteps, much I enjoy it (Prince songs, Jack chewing scenery, Keaton being 5' tall). They're both good, but only Superman is truly great.

Red Dog 06-19-06 03:08 PM

Not even close - Supes

dadaluholla 06-19-06 03:10 PM

Batman!

Legolas 06-19-06 03:18 PM

Batman 89 blew me away as a kid, but that had more to do with the fact that it was a big budget non-Adam West Batman. But the storyline doesn't hold up watching it years later, and knowing what I know about Batman now, he was way too Burtoned-out.

I agree a Poll would have been a better visual aid to the question, and Yes I also agree that Superman was the better movie.

Batman. The original Superman series, is by far, the most overrated superhero movies of all-time. I cannot for the life of me understand what people see in these movies. I enjoyed the score, but Gene Hackman is ridiculously CHEESY along with most of the plot lines. I would say the 2nd film is the best because of the 3 villains (Terence Stamp!) but c'mon it's pure CHEESE. All of them! Batman is one of my favorite films. Superman belongs in the category with Fantastic Four.

which version.. ? ;)

Superman has aged much better, it helps having the same writer as The Godfather.

also, I personally think Superman has more of a better replay value to it, I'd rewatch Superman at a heartbeat than say Batman.

McHawkson 06-19-06 04:11 PM

I have to pick Superman '78 because of slow pace and introduce Clark Kent/Superman. Batman is just like B movie action shits.
