Rob Zombie's Halloween -- remake (2007)
 

Here we go. I suppose the Elm Street Remake starring Bubs McKenzey will be upon on in 2007. There was a rumor going around for a short time that Freddy could possible be CGI due to Robert Englunds age. He would provide the voice. Though that one was pretty much debunked. Not sure if it was seriously discussed originally.

Anyways, on to the point.

Early studio rumors have this pegged for being a Pg-13 lighter remake in the likes of the When a Stranger Calls Remake. That movie was excellent afterall. lol.

The studio feels as the target mainstream younger audience would be too frightened by an R-rated feature.

Let's face it. This movie will be another Dimension release which practically kills it before it has a chance to begin.

Taylor Cole (Laguna Beach), Micsha Barton (The OC), and Johanson Taylor (Wee Pa Girl Rappers) are being discussed as possible casting choices. Nothing has been determined.

Although this is slightly old news, it's nice to hear something fresh and more solid. In the midst of all of the news regarding Dante Tomaselli wanting to be part of the next Halloween film, a very credible website had an interesting little bit mixed in with all of the madness. Moviehole writes, "While the Weinstein's HAVE decided to remake that first Halloween - yep, new Laurie Strode - there is still a rough plan to do one more in the current series too." Clint over at Moviehole always has had pretty solid news from anything Dimension related, so for him to confirm this major decision is as solid as it gets without an official press release. Halloween 9 or a remake of Halloween- if I had to decide I'd just cross my fingers that someone other than Dimension Films produces it (keep dreaming Mr. D).

Actually, there's not that much in the original to warrant an R rating. There are no gory death squences. Which is why Friday the 13th was created.

I was alive in 1978 and at the time Halloween did warrant it's R rating. It was a terrifying movie to many during the time of it's release.

You are talking about 28 years ago. Very different time period from now.

There is no way in 1978 that the movie would have ever gotten a PG-13.

I suppose it's not a Pg-13 vs. R rated issue.

It's more of another: This is being targeted towards the hip 13 year old girl who shouts at the top of their lungs at anything argument with the hip soundtrack geared towards them raging in the background.

Friday the 13th in 1980 was considered a smut film that should have been rated X, but that's another story. Once again, very different time.

If I was Carpenter, I'd tell these people who wan to remake his own films to bugger off; they are 0-2.

This is just too pathetic, atleast Jason is getting a respectable reinterpetation at Platnium Dunes. Demension can go to hell.

Ok, there are a lot of things (especially older films) that I wouldn't mind seeing remade, but remaking Halloween is absolutely a RETARDED idea.

Not saying I'll hate it just because it's a remake of a film I love, but I just think it's pointless to make since Halloween doesn't feel dated. It holds up and looks ok.

Well at the time the original was released, the PG-13 didn't exist. Halloween definitely wasn't PG, so it was given an R. It had nudity and some blood, so these days it'd still get an R. But sadly, these days studios are happy to cut out both things in hopes of turning a few million more dollars.

Make fun of When a Stranger Calls as much as you want, but it made a hell of a lot of money.

I think horror fans need to think of most of these recent remakes as just money grabs by the studio and a way to reintroduce these films to a younger audience. Don't pay any attention to them, they're not meant for you.

I'm surprised R-rated movies are even made anymore.

Frankie Muniz IS Michael Myers!

I'm not as bothered by the PG13 as I am by the idea of specifically aiming it at young teenagers. It's one thing to try to throw out a wide net that *includes* the 13-16 yo crowd, but it's another to target the movie *directly* to them.

I miss the good old days when filmmakers would intentionaly add nudity and gore in order to get an R rating. At one point during the seventies an R would almost guarantee larger boxoffice and studios intentionally try to get an R.

Why not? Nothing is sacred anymore, so why resist?

That's not a very good defense.

This is so wrong on too many levels.

If they're updating Halloween for today's audiences, does this mean Michael Myers will wear a Picard mask?

Not really. It had a good opening weekend and then sunk like a rock with horrible legs.

Did it do good for it's budget? Very much so. But, overall it still was no hit compared to other films.
