Will the average teen even realize where this catchphrase is from anyways? I mean, it's been atleast 7 or so years since DVD's zoomed past VHS and those went away. Most jack black fans in their teens and even early twenties might not even remember those days.

Might as well make a movie about a record store clerk and name it after some quality of sound! How craaaazzzy!

That wouldn't work. You know what else wouldn't work? Basing a comedy around old Luchador movies. Or remaking a movie from the 1930's.

Not that I don't believe you, but where did you hear that?

EDIT:

I see that BoxOfficeMojo has the new date. If this is true, then -

Jack Black is funny? Who knew? He could be the nicest guy in the world same with Steve Martin but I just don't think hes that funny. I did like School of Rock but after seeing that movie 95 billion times & having TBS running in the background when they show that movie to death I am just plain annoyed by the movie now.

This movie sounds almost as bad as that movie where Jack Black invents some spray that makes dog shit magically disappear.

I'll see anything Gondry does, and I actually like Jack Black.

For reference, I am a twenty year old, and my friends and I very much remember the age of video tapes.

If that's the case, then we're both in the minority.

I love Gondry and like Black in a lot of things, but I am probably just cautiously optimistic on this one.

Yes it seems to me like the whole movie is predicated on the idea that we have all forgotten about DVDs !!

the VHS tapes are blank - oh no - who cares - download them here.

Well, if you're going to be a cynic about it... In the movie, there aren't any DVD's. What if it's set before 1998? Or, for that matter, before 2000 (when DVD's really started to take off). Hopefully they also wrote in that a rental-only VHS used to cost around $90ea.

As the trailer shows... Jack Black and Mos Def are just some cool motherfuckers. The ruin their VHS tapes. They make these ridiculous 'remakes'. And the ridiculous remakes gather a hip little cult following (like Gondry's films?).

This actually seems pretty low concept for Gondry.
