Another week, another horror movie I have no interest in seeing at the top. It's like printing money with those things lately...

Artman 04-22-06 07:12 PM

Pretty ho-hum wknd for box office. The fireworks will start in two wks with MI3.

onebyone 04-22-06 10:14 PM

Nice to see some pretty good numbers for Silent Hill. I had a hard time guessing what The Sentinel would make. Would people come out for Michael Douglas and Jack Bauer kind of sort of maybe? I guess not.

Dr. DVD 04-23-06 12:12 PM

Those are some week numbers for a whole weekend. When was the last time a top movie didn't even crack the double digits?

The Antipodean 04-23-06 12:18 PM

Those aren't the numbers for the whole weekend - just friday

The Antipodean 04-23-06 12:20 PM

"American Dreamz" certainly tanked. Wasn't the box-office prediction around 7.5M? Anyway, saw it and thought it was o.k. at best. Guess word of mouth is killing it. I went with a group of friends to see it and none of us really liked it.

Dr. DVD 04-23-06 01:54 PM

I wonder if this bodes well for a Silent Hill sequel? My thinking is that its numbers will be pretty impressive worldwide as Gans is known internationally, I think.

Interestingly enough, while many critics loved the film, most moviegoers hated the film. That tells me--

(getting on soapbox)

--the disconnect between the entertainment industry and the average American.

(getting off soapbox)

For the record, more critics didn't like the film than one's who did (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/american_dreamz/). And, strangely enough, I didn't find too many positive reviews there where they loved it. I was bummed I didn't ejoy this movie. I loved "About a Boy" and "In Good Company".

Patman 04-23-06 06:08 PM

I gave American Dreamz 1/2 star, or a grade of F+, it was wanted to be so smarmy and high-handed, but utterly failed as a satire, much less a comedic look at the banalization of TV viewers who soak up reality TV fanfare such as American Idol, or put up with a president who is presented as a dullard being controlled by his VP. Seriously, save your money, it's a total waste of time. The 1/2 star was for the hottie middle eastern female cousin of Omar.

Too bad Thank You For Smoking is tanking - it really is good. The afternoon showing my mom and I went to had only about ten people in the theater.

Mr. Cinema 04-23-06 08:34 PM

Good to see "Inside Man" passing $80 million. Looks like it may top out around $90 million. "Silent Hill's" 10% drop on Saturday spells out short legs....especially with M:I3 looming.

Dan1boy 04-24-06 12:15 PM

I'm just ecstatic to see the return of the R rated horror movie again....about time!

wm lopez 04-24-06 06:37 PM

AMERICAN DREAMZ was another Hollywood liberal movie bashing George Bush, so I'm glad it tanked.

I sure hope so!

RichC2 04-24-06 06:57 PM

Sony apparently only paid $14m for US Distribution rights. Bodes well for them, at least, supporting a sequel.

The funny thing is, the president in American Dreamz was smarter than Bush despite being a caricature of the man himself.

Jackskeleton 04-24-06 10:42 PM

I think the main killer for american dreams was that no one who watches American Idol wants to hear about Politics and no one who wants to see political satire wants to see a film even remotely related to american idol material.
