I hate, hate, hate Richard Gere! But the SOB is brilliant in Chicago. Another one is Marlon Brando (yes, Brando), but I loved him in Teahouse of the August Moon and the Godfather. James Dean - I never would have gotten through his annoying mumbling in Giant without the closed captioning. However, he's great in East of Eden. And number one on my hit parade - Adam Sandler (but I can't think of a movie with him that I liked).

I loath Keanu Reeves but I am completely in love with the one of the worst movies ever, "Point Break"..
Also I hate Nicholas Cage, but I really liked him in "Valley Girl"

Mickey Rourke - Rumble Fish, Body Heat, Sin City
Sam Neill - damn I want to punch him, but I'll tolerate him for the newer Dr. Zhivago "mini-series"
Elijah Wood - LOTR, Sin City (he still sucks for that role)

I feel the same way about Robin Williams. Hate any and all of his comedic roles, but I liked Insomnia and One Hour Photo.

Of fthe top of my head:

Steel Magnolias...Love the movie, HATE Julia Roberts

Since when is "in spite of" grammatically dubious?

Why is 'Point Break' considered one of the worst movies ever? I thought it was a cult classic..one of my guilty pleasures. Hmm...

Dang! Where’s the love for Keanu. This guy’s one of my favorites despite his dubious abilities as an actor. He never phones it in. He tries with enthusiasm and he picks awesome projects. I can’t wait to see him in A Scanner Darkly even though I know the net’s gonna be dripping with acerbic commentary on his rendition of Arctor.

I guess I usually hate people based on whom I perceive them to be in real life as much as their professional chops. Reeves has always impressed me as a very nice person largely making up for his lack of methodology in acting. I know that wouldn’t fly for a professional critic, but then I have other professional plans.

That being said my entry is The Terminator with my benevolent Governor.

(Guilty Secret: I will never get rid of my Johnny Mnemonic DVD just for those incredibly weird times that I am in the mood to see it.)

I didn't mean that as a stab at the picture at all. Horrible acting, cheesy plotlines and gary busey, when combined, seem to make one of the greatest movies of all time in my opinion. We can't deny it's awful though.

Matthew McConaughey

I couldn't stand this guy at first, but after seeing Reign of Fire I changed my mind about him. Now he's not so bad. I watched Frailty a few weeks later and liked him in that too.

Owen's not actually in Rushmore, he just co-wrote it with Wes Anderson.
Two of his brothers (Luke and Andrew) appear in it, though...

Jake Gyllenhaal hasn't been in any movies that I love, but as soon as he is that film will be appropriate for this thread.

I honestly can't think of anyone in Hollywood that I dislike more than that guy.

Owen appears (in a photo) as Olivia William's character's deceased husband.
