I still think this will be a good show. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior and Pixar has the track record to make me believe it. Now, some day I will be forced to watch Chicken Little....and I'll bet it made money but still blows.

Based on the huge ass opening of Ice Age 2 ($70 million plus), and the fact that this is A)a family based film, and B) tapping into the NASCAR fan base as it reaches its Zenith, I predict this movie will be huge this summer. Wouldn't surprise me if it makes over $100 million first weekend.

Probably right. Putting the Pixar name on a film these days is like printing money. And hey, they deserve it. But I still don't think I'll be watching this time though.
Like I said in a previous post, I'd just like to see the Pixar artists branch out into doing more besides cute animals and inanimate object buddy pictures. Maybe something along the lines of the Appleseed movie from a couple of years ago (without all the violence of course), or what they could have done with MirrorMask. They already know how to do great stories, so why not something with a little more 'meat' to it, along with some truely mind-blowing visuals to go with. All I can figure is that they (along with most other studios) are afraid to do more realistic films after Final Fantasy:TSW bombed so badly a few years back.
You'd think with John Lassiter being such a Miyazaki whore that more of that sense of wonder would have rubbed off on him by now.

But at the same time, not everything or everyone needs to make something more "real" Walt Disney (The Man) dedicated his life to making quality family films, and the man is treated like a deity in many circles. let someone else go the route of the blood and guts, but save Pixar for the families.

I have extremely, extremely low expectations of this movie. It just doesn't look good.
(My opinion worsened after I saw the latest trailer).
Also, since by buying a ticket I am inn any way supporting Larry the Cable Guy also doesn't help.

Most of the criticism I keep reading about Cars reminds me of my thoughts about Finding Nemo. A feature length cartoon about fish? You've got to be kidding me!
In hindsight, I probably shared Michael Eisner's opinion of Nemo. Except that his was based on viewing the movie, while mine wasn't.
Boy, was I surprised when I did.
