4. Nurse Betty - $4.5 million, 2nd weekend
5. Space Cowboys - $2.5 million, 7th weekend
6. The Cell - $2.5 million, 5th weekend
7. What Lies Beneath - $2.5 million, 9th weekend
8. Almost Famous - $2.3 million, 1st weekend (good movie number two)
9. Scary Movie - $2 million, 11th weekend
10. Duets - $2 million, 1st weekend
Several good movies. Almost Famous is almost a classic. Space Cowboys was really funny. What Lies Beneath was a pleasent surprise, and The Cell was an excellent movie that I think has some of the most exciting visuals in movie history, plus an interesting entertaining plot. I do remember The Watcher being a stinker though.

Between the cost and the bullshit that has to be dealt with (children/teenagers, cellphones) I'd rather just wait a few months and rent it.
I totally agree. Many of my extended family do this exact thing, just go to the theater and look at what's playing. And if a movie they decide on happens to be sold out, they'll just pick something else. What the hell is that about? I think that's why crap films do so well. They rely on easy-to-please Americans who just want to sit down and watch something, exactly as they do at home. Personally, I consider film to be a completely different medium and mindset than TV. But I think I'm in the minority.

That's pretty straightforward. They want an evening out and think the movies is a good way to go. They look at posters and the titles and actors and think which one they should go see. THen they watch it.

I could never do that because I feel watching bad movies in the theatre is a terrible waste of time and money. But I can see how for others that might not be the case. I know when I was younger I had no problem going to see anything at all.

It was a slow week for movies. Does that mean the sky is falling? Correct me if I am wrong but I wasn't aware that a blockbuster incredible movie came out every week.

That is one crappy top 10 list...I would probably check out 16 Blocks & The Hills Have Eyes, but I have no interest in anything else there. My taste in films runs counter to the mainstream audience so I'm sure the majority of the American audience loves that selection of films, and would consider me to be an elitist snob.

I think he might be talking about how low the take was for each movie.

No. he was talking about the quality of the movies themselves. Note the "(good movie number one/two)" tags.
