Weird coincidences in movies?

I always love pointing out things that are weird coincidences in movies i see. sometimes it is when actors who are totally unrelated work with each other in a movie that was maybe decades before they would work again totally randomly with each other.

one i can recall, is Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau doing "Rudy" in 1993, then of course there most famous pairing in "Swingers" in 1996. now, that may have been sparked by them meeting and becoming friends, but perhaps not and it was totally random.

another better example...i just watched "The Dead Zone" with Cristopher Walken. There were 2 actually:

1) His character Johnny gives his class the assignment to read "Sleepy Hollow"before his accident and makes comment to a line in it after with his ex-girfriend. I find it weird because Walken would play The Hessian Horseman in Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow" in 1999.

2) The other is Martin Sheen's character Stillson. He is on his way to becoming Senator and eludes to the fact that his last stop will be President. Well, of course he does become President in "The West Wing".

So those are two and I know there are so many more weird coincidences that I have come across but cannot recall right now.

So what are some good ones you have found??

Sean Penn ordered had a pizza sent to his classroom in 1982's Fast Times at Ridgemont High, then in a 2004 film he tried to kill Richard Nixon.

Clint Eastwood directed Sean Penn in Mystic River. He played a gunslinger in Unforgiven who killed Gene Hackman, who played the president in Welcome to Mooseport.

Gene Hackman was in Enemy of the State with Will Smith. Will Smith did voicework in Shark Tale with Robert De Niro who was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon.

Guy Pearce starred in L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, which was directed by Curtis Hanson. Later, Hanson directed 8 MILE, featuring Brittany Murphy, who has pierced ears.

George Clooney, the famous actor, starred in Good Night and Good Luck, which was directed by someone named George Clooney. It doesn't get weirder than that.

And don't forget, Robin Wright Penn was in The Crossing Guard, directed by Sean Penn. And Sean Penn was in Robin Wright Penn.

In The Princess Bride, Fezzik asks if anybody wants a peanut. Cary Elwes (Wesley/Dread Pirate Roberts) never answers that question, and later goes on to star in Saw. In Waiting..., Luis Guzman saw Calvin's batwing, and says, "Oh, it's so veiny!"

Johnny Boy 03-09-06 10:46 PM

Didn't Robert De Niro have a sex/love scene with Jane Fonda in one movie, and her daughter Bridget in another movie (Jackie Brown)? Not sure what the Jane Fonda movie was, or if there was one.

A more personal coincidence:

My favorite actor Robert De Niro, and my favorite actress Uma Thurman both star in Mad Dog and Glory. Not only do I not own it, but I've never even seen it. :(

Either I forget to buy it or I go out with the intention of buying it and it's not at the store. I don't like ordering movies. Jesus Shuttlesworth must not want me to see this movie.

...with Kevin Bacon!

I think its rather funny that the old theater owner in "Last Action Hero" is sitting there telling Arnolds character about how politicians are bad.

Kevin Bacon was in Mystic River with Sean Penn, whose brother Chris Penn died from eating too much bacon!

Matthew Broderick was in Inspector Gadget. He's married to Sarah Jessica Parker, and I'd like to inspect her gadgets. (Sorry, stolen from TV just now)

How about the fact that Sean Bean, John Rhys Davies, and Christopher Lee were all in Lord of the Rings, and each one of them played a James Bond nemesis, but none against the same Bond (Bean-Goldeneye-Pierce Brosnan; Davies-Living Daylights-Timothy Dalton; Lee-Man With the Golden Gun-Roger Moore)! And if you want to stretch a little further, other LOTR stars Orlando Bloom and Viggo Mortensen were rumored to have been considered as the next James Bond.

I think it's weird that in both Dazed and Confused and Mallrats, Ben Affleck seems to have a hard-on for butts.

seriously.... here is an odd one that I came across recently. The Actress that does the voice of pocahontas in the Disney movie also plays pocahontas' mom in The New World.

In Burtons " Batman" the gas is called "Smilex", in Burtons "Charlie and......" the toothpaste the dad works on is called "Smilex".

In Armageddon, when they are going to inject the guy with a needle, he makes reference to the scene in Pulp Fiction, which also starred Bruce Willis.

Luther Heggs 03-10-06 10:52 AM

In 1990: The Bronx Warriors, Vic Morrow has this exchange with another character:
-"If you don't get the girl by 11:00 tomorrow, I'll have your head."
-"Don't worry, we'll fly her in - in a helicopter."
The year after that Morrow and child actress Myca Lee are decapitated by a helicopter rotor. (Morrow leaves Jennifer Jason Leigh the sum of $100 in his will, while more than half a million goes to his older daughter and his dog. Not part of the coincidence, but weird nonetheless.)

Groucho 03-10-06 10:58 AM

Ian McKellan has played an old guy in nearly every movie he's appeared in.

paulringodaman 03-10-06 11:09 AM

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were extras at Fenway Park in "Field of Dreams" Now they are famous!! ha

Doubtful that was a coincidence, but nice catch!

Here's one I've seen referenced before:
Christian Bale in American Psycho = Patrick BatEman
Christian Bale in Batman Begins = The Batman
