No Way Out (1987)?

so Kevin Costner was really
Spoiler:
a Russian spy?
If so what was his original mission and why wasn't that fully explained?

you must've been watching (re-watching) it the exact same time i was. And yes, and i don't know...but kind of makes it one of the first modern "twist endings" (almost every thriller has a twist these days making the ones with out twists the real twists)

I can't remember the mission, but i was pretty blown away by the twist.
Very good thriller. Will Patton is spectacular in this film.

just curious...wouldn't you want to know why he was actually there in the first place? i know it wouldn't have mattered to this story, but it would have been interesting to know his true intents.

His mission seems obviously: he works in Pentagon with high access to sensitive areas.

And he's Russian. In 1986. Pretty obvious what his mission was, IMO: SPY.

Yep... more than likey he was supposed to be someone w/ a clean background who could eventually make his way up the ladder and then be activated. Things just got out of hand and his cover was essentially destroyed although not technically blown IMHO (from what I recall, it's been awhile).

I thought part of his mission was to have a relationship with the woman to get closer to Hackman. It was never expected that Hackman would kill her.
