I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry - Sandler's "modern classic"

UGH.

LOS ANGELES (Feb. 9) - Adam Sandler and Kevin James are in negotiations to play firefighters who pretend to be a gay couple in an upcoming film comedy "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry."

"Wedding Crashers" director David Dobkin is attached to take the helm of the long-gestating project at Universal Pictures.

The firefighters in "Chuck and Larry" pose as a married gay couple in order to receive domestic partner benefits. Alexander Payne and James Taylor, the Oscar-winning team behind "Sideways" and "About Schmidt," have written the current draft of the screenplay based on a treatment by Lew Gallo.

The coming together of Sandler and James finally puts the project, which has been at the studio since the late 1990s, on the runway.

A parade of writers has hammered out drafts over the years, and various combinations of actors, such as Will Smith and Nicolas Cage, Smith and James Gandolfini and Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson have flirted with the movie.

Sandler is set to start production on the Mike Binder-directed drama "Reign O'er Me" in the spring and will next be seen star in the comedy "Click," which is due to open June 30.

James is best known for starring in CBS's long-running comedy "The King of Queens." His most recent big-screen appearance was with Will Smith in 2005's "Hitch," where he was cited for scene stealing. He also is doing voice work in "Monster House" and "Barnyard."

As someone who didn't see Boat Trip and is looking forward to not seeing this, I have learned absolutely nothing. But I'm guessing that Chuck and Larry -- after about 90 minutes of mincing and flouncing -- will eventually learn a very important lesson about respect and tolerance.

I'm going to go the other way and say that Larry and Chuck end up as bitter rivals who can only agree on their hatred of gay people.

Who wants to bet that the trailers will spoof Brokeback Mountain. And oh how creative that will be.

Ugh indeed.

I think it'll be a train wreck too.

I think everybody in this thread needs to check themselves and show a little more respect towards firefighters, our national heroes.

Not to mention the fact that all the nutcases against gay marriage will use this as a reason not to allow gay people to marry...

....... as if straight people can't do the same thing.

People pretending to be gay have rights to, they should be allowed all the same rights gay people pretending to be straight enjoy. This whole right wing attitude this forum has developed recently is disgusting!

Uhm, did you see Boat Trip? I've had this debate here before on dvdtalk. Boat Trip was a totally PRO-GAY movie. ALL the jokes were on the straight guys and their Gay Prejudices(actually one character more than the other). I think many Gays missed this movie assuming it would make fun of gays and it didn't. By the end of the movie
Spoiler:
The gays and straight guays all becoem good friends

I'll bet this new Sandler movie will be a fun one too.

Forget it. We're getting a divorce.

In all seriousness, I remember when BT was coming out and they had these people showing trailers around NYC and we were asked our opinions of the different trailers. We saw BT and everyone that I heard review it talked about how offensive and stupid it was. I had no reason to see it. It looked stereotypical and regardless of what happens in the end, that doesn't help.

I'm damn sure giving this movie a chance. Kevin James in a lead, David Dobkin directing, with a screenplay co-written by Alexander Payne and James Taylor? Count me in.

No, the charges were dropped after the prosecution actually saw it.

And I like Kevin James. Sandler is mostly a miss with me, although I love Happy Gilmore.
