Final Destination 3 being number one means that we will be granted another sequel.

I figured it was pretty much a given "Firewall" wasn't going to do well. Just looks so predictable, and lately it seems like a horror movie would be #1 even if Ed Wood was directing it.

Good to see Curious George doing well.

Not really surprised that Panther's doing good. Nothing America deems as "popular" surprises me anymore..

I really hope Curious George does well. I may just go break down and see it just to help out in the small way I can. Been on the fence but it looks pretty good and Id hate to see this be the deathknell for 2d animation.

Talk about a slow weekend (and the bad weather in the northeast will probably make it even worse) - but just because something is sitting at #1 doesn't really mean it's doing that well. All four of the new titles at the top of the list will each probably end up with a weekend total that's less than a real hit film would post for a Friday alone.

It's all relative. If FD3 makes a 20 million weekend (possible by Friday's numbers) it will have come pretty close to making back its production budget. It won't be a mega-hit, but come the next few weeks and DVD, it will be very profitable.

If Final Destination 3 makes 20 million, that will be the biggest opening out of any of the Final Destination movies. So I don't think it'll be seen as 'low' for them.

I agree. And the FD franchise has sold REALLY WELL on DVD, so it will probably clean up there.

No doubt. Movies are relative. With the opening looking towards 20 million, by all means it's a fantastic opening weekend. Sure, some movies can make that on friday alone, but they also cost 3 or 4 times as much.

Nobody expects a movie like this to make 50 million OW. Horror is on a roll right now.

Are you sure? Sources I checked say it did about $16 million opening weekend. I don't think I remember it opening out of the teens.

Damn Harrison, you haven't had a decent hit movie in almost 10 years

Firewall (2006) .... Jack Stanfield
Hollywood Homicide (2003) .... Joe Gavilan K-19: The Widowmaker (2002) .... Alexei Vostrikov
What Lies Beneath (2000) .... Dr. Norman Spencer
Random Hearts (1999) .... Sergeant William 'Dutch' Van Den Broeck
Six Days Seven Nights (1998) .... Quinn Harris
Air Force One (1997) .... President James Marshall

I think you should retire after Indy 4..... you are hitting the Sly, Arnold, Van Damme, Segal status in your career

While subjective to your opinion on what you'd consider "decent" or not, What Lies Beneath was a decent sized hit ($155m domestic, $291m Worldwide), though I have no idea its huge budget went. Air Force One made $173m domestic and about $315m worldwide.

So 6 years since a hit, but still way above the Sly Stallone draw.

I never expected to see the horror genre go on this big of a role. It seems like every horror film that opens hits number one.

This bolds well for the Texas Chainsaw prequel and Saw III in October. Those should have solid opening numbers.

FD3 is a hit... There's a big snowstorm here in New York and it's preventing me from seeing it this weekend. I'll check it out during the week. I have that free movie ticket thing and The first 2 films are great fun.

WLB was considered a very nice sleeper hit actually.

From what it looks like, The Pink Panther and Final Destination 3 are going to end up in a near tie. I was expecting Firewall to be much higher, which goes to show what I know.

Random Hearts is very underrated. Hollywood Homicide was a complete mess.
