MATCH POINT THE SQUID AND THE WHALE SYRIANA --- IMO, here's who got snubbed: Best Actor in a Leading Role Russell Crowe, Cinderella Man -- Perhaps some are taking his great acting for granted like old school Al Pacino, he was terrific in this movie. Best Actress in a Leading Role Maria Bello, A History of Violence --It's quite an insult to see William Hurt nominated but not her. I thought it would be between her and Reese for the Oscar, awful snub. Best Actor in a Supporting Role Jamie Foxx, Jarhead -- I may bit a bias since I absolutely love the movie, however Jamie Foxx gave another great performance and was simply the best thing about this movie. Best Picture Walk the Line -- This is simply a travesty. They nominate Joaquin and Reese but the movie isn't strong enough for Picture? Munich on the other hand gets nominated with no acting nominations. Cinderella Man -- A great "feel good" movie, anchored with three great performances from it's leads. Shame. For now that's all I can think of. I'd like to go on a little rant here; why does every black & white movie get nominated for cinematography? Isn't it like way easier to match up the colors when you only have 2 of them to work with? |
Snubbed: Naomi Watts for King Kong and Viggo Mortensen for A History of Violence.
Biggest snub: Grizzly Man not even being on the list for Best Documentary nominee. |
Only snubs I saw were GRIZZLY MAN for not even being on the list, 2046 for Cinematography, and CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY with no Art Direction nom (!?)
|
Agree with 2046 for Cinematography.
Scarlett Johanson should have got a nom for Match Point. However, I am very pleasently surprised to see Amy Adams name on there for Junebug. Now if only she can beat out Michelle Williams. |
How about no Star Wars for visual effects?
|
What, No love for Tom Cruise????? :)
Watts was good but not good enough to get a nomimation. |
in Munich's defense, it did receive Director, Editing, and Screenplay.
King Kong should have gotten more, but I'm in the minority. The Squid and the Whale should have gotten more than 1. Don't have many complaints. I thought alot of films were well represented. Can't believe Memoirs of a Geisha got 6 nods. |

History of violence and Match point could have used a few more nods. Especially since they are the better films of year unlike that preachy crapfest, Crash. We live in a world where matt dillon gets nominated for an oscar. MATT DILLON!!!
|
 to Amy Adams. Best performance of the year in that category by far. They gots it right.
|
Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello for aHoV.
Batman Begins for Original Score. And I am sure there are others that I can't think of right now. |
Selecting Francis McDormand over Maria Bello doesn't seem right.
|
There are only three nominations in Best Original Song, which is missing the Golden Globe winner (and best original song of the year): A Love That Will Never Grow Old, from Brokeback Mountain. I find this shocking.
I also think Crash is undeserving of its Best Picture nomination. It's a paint-by-numbers portrait of racism, and unrealistic at that. And I really wanted to like it; I even watched it a second time to give it another chance. It's just too obvious. |
The song from Brokeback Mountain didn't qualify. The reason is mentioned in the Oscar thread.
|
For me the snubs would be:
Realistic snubs: Eric Bana for Munich Brokeback Mountain for Editing Munich for Cinematography and Sound Mixing King Kong for Cinematography Star Wars Episode III for Sound Editing and Visual Effects Michael Lonsdale for Munich Fantasy snubs (ones that I hoped for, but knew they didn't have a chance in hell of happening): Batman Begins for Picture (Nolan), Director (Nolan), Actor (Bale), and Supporting Actor (Caine) Sin City for Visual Effects |
Munich getting noms for director and picture is complete BS.
|
Viggo for History of Violence.
|
I know it was just a tiny indie role, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt deserved recognition for his work as Neil McCormick in "Mysterious Skin."
|
Cinderella Man for best pic and Crowe for best actor.
|
Throwing phones at hotel employees apparently doesn't sit well with Academy members
|
Definite "WTF are they thinking" snubs:
Crash for Best Score Sin City for Best Visual Effects Speaking of which, why are there only 3 visual effects nominees all the time? While most others have 5? |
Surprised that Huffman was nominated. I know there was a lot of buzz but it seemed all rather hopeful to me.
Matt Dillon? |
Walk the Line shut out of Best Picture. Had to read that twice to make sure. I wish I knew how to quit the Oscars!

As for who was "snubbed." None of these folks. "Snubbed" implies that the Academy thought they should be nominated, but chose not too for some outside reason. |
