BTW I just heard Rachel Weisz got her panties in a bunch (not a good thing when you're six months pregnant) over that snub, saying that it made no sense for her to be nominated and not her screenpartner.

Wouldn't Jake Gyllenhaal also be considered in the "leading role" category?

It's a big role but it's definately secondary to Heath's, especially in the second half of the film. If Jennifer Connelly can win for best supporting then Jake should be able to also.

Yes, Brainiac, but some award shows count their "fiscal" year as being from Dec (previous year) to Nov (currentyear) or May (previous year) to April (current year), not Jan-Dec.

Rule Two
Eligibility

1. Eligibility for Academy Award consideration is subject to Rules Two and Three, and to those special rules approved by the Board of Governors which follow.

2. All eligible motion pictures, unless otherwise noted (see Paragraph 9 below), must be:

a) feature length (defined as over 40 minutes),

b) publicly exhibited by means of 35mm or 70mm film, or in a 24- or 48-frame progressive scan Digital Cinema format (minimum native resolution 1280 by 1024 pixels, with pixel bit depth, color primaries, and image and sound file formats suitable for exhibition in commercial Digital Cinema sites).

c) for paid admission in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County,

d) for a run of at least seven consecutive days,


e) advertised and exploited during its Los Angeles run in a manner considered normal and customary to the industry, and

f) within the awards year deadlines specified in Rule Three.

Rule Three
The Awards Year and Deadlines

1. The required Los Angeles County qualifying run (described in Rule Two Paragraph 2) must open between January 1, 2005 and midnight of December 31, 2005.

There should be a rule that the only way to get nominated for best picture is if there is a scene where the protagonist is eating a slice of pie. That's what I think any ways.

Pierce Brosnan in The Matador. Great performance. I really enjoyed that movie.
