Re: 2022 Razzie Nominations Celebrating the worst in film

Change the title to 2023

I hope this does not discourage Pete Davidson but he is doing well in another dept dating to make up for this.

Leading the field is Andrew Dominik’s controversial Marilyn Monroe biopic “Blonde,” with eight nominations. While Ana de Armas is not up for worst actress, the film is nominated for worst picture and Dominik for worst director and screenplay. Evan Williams and Xavier Samuel are also both competing for worst supporting actor alongside Mod Sun and Pete Davidson for “Good Mourning” and Oscar winner Tom Hanks for “Elvis.”

Hanks is also in the worst actor race for his turn as Geppetto in Disney’s live-action “Pinocchio.” Filling out the worst actor race are Colson Baker (a.k.a. Machine Gun Kelly, whose stoner comedy “Good Mourning” picked up seven noms in total), Davidson (for a voice role in “Marmaduke”), Sylvester Stallone (“Samaritan”) and Jared Leto (“Morbius.”)

The Sony Pictures vampire movie based on the Marvel villain flopped at the box office with $39 million in its opening weekend in April. The Leto-fronted movie was panned by critics and became an instant internet meme, earning a re-release in June that yielded just over $300,000.

Disney’s “Pinocchio” is up for six awards, “Morbius” received five nominations and “The King’s Daughter” got three.

Absent from this year’s slate of nominations is the special award given to Bruce Willis, who appeared in 11 movies in 2022. Last year, the Razzies created a category called “worst performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 movie,” but the satirical awards organization rescinded the award last March after Willis’ family revealed that the “Die Hard” actor was struggling with aphasia, a language disorder caused by brain damage that affects a person’s ability to communicate.

No, they'd much rather put effort into nominating an 11 year old girl. Fuck them.

Re: The Golden Raspberry Awards / Razzie Awards Thread

Cofounder John Wilson chat with Buzzfeed about the row, which comes less than a year after the show last year had to rescind a category mocking actor Bruce Willis after his diagnosis with aphasia was revealed publicly. Wilson said that he 'can see how it could be taken' as mean-spirited, but doesn't 'think that was how it was meant.'

He added, 'I think people who get upset about it - I don't even know how to say this. The rage is interesting - perhaps somewhat justified, but I think overblown. There's a righteousness about it. It's the Razzie Awards, for goodness' sake!'

Wilson said that 'the intent' on the nomination 'was to be funny,' and that 'in this particular instance, we seem to have misstepped very badly.'

Yup nominating a twelve year old girl probably really upset her and made her feel terrible about herself. Fuck this garbage organization.

Other than not visiting their website, the only other way to "boycott" them would be negative social media comments. And that probably wouldn't bother them since it would get them to trend.

Have to admit, that nomination was unseemly. Have they nominated/awarded child actors in the past? Seems like kids should be off limits to something like the Razzies because they may lack the maturity to roll with it like most of the adult nominees do (especially those who show up, as discussed earlier in this thread). I saw FIRESTARTER, didn't hate it, but I could take it or leave it. I thought her work was no better or worse than the majority of child actors. I don't think she's some kind of prodigy, but then most of them aren't. Criticisms in print/online reviews are inevitable, and actors of any age have to live with that, but the Razzies can unnecessarily stoke insecurities in someone that age, to detrimental effect.

Razzie Awards Organizers Apologize and Remove 12-Year-Old Ryan Kiera Armstrong From Nominee Ballot After Backlash

Razzie Awards organizers have removed Ryan Kiera Armstrong from their ballot following backlash against including the actress, who is 12, in its annual picks for the worst films and performances of the year.

John Wilson, head of the group that organizes the Golden Raspberry Awards — aka the Razzies — also issued an apology in a statement released Wednesday morning.

“Sometimes, you do things without thinking,” Wilson said. “Then you are called out for it. Then you get it. It’s why the Razzies were created in the first place.”

Wilson also said that new voting guidelines are being adopted that will preclude any performer or filmmaker who is a minor from being considered for a Razzie Award

Re: The Golden Raspberry Awards / Razzie Awards Thread

Unlike others in this thread, I am not totally in the Eff the Razzies camp. However, the more that I think about it someone should have said, dude...she is barely a teenager, let's reconsider keeping her on the list of nominees.

Back to back controversies involving the Razzies, it is becoming a trend that could ultimately lead to the dissolution of the Razzies organization.

Every year they have to apologize and undo something they just did. What a great organization.

Yep. I’m all for Hollywood types “razzing” actors and keeping their awards goofy and lighthearted. They’re doing a piss-poor job of not making this look mean-spirited though. It shouldn’t be that difficult. Apparently it is.

Seriously, keeping kids out of it shouldn’t have been a long, difficult decision by committee. Not one person involved with the Razzies thought it was a bad idea?!

Are the Razzies something to be taken seriously in the first place?

If not, then she (and every other "nominee") should just have a good laugh over it and move on. Or embrace it and have some fun with it, as a few have in the past (Halle Berry comes to mind). The best reaction, IMO.

I dunno, if I was a kid just starting out, I think websites and publications saying I was WORST (regardless of the organization) would have an affect on me. Sorry, 12 year old me didn't have a thicker skin then Halle Berry.

That's fine when you're an older established star. When you're young and just starting out you don't want "2022 Golden Razzie nominee" attached to your name in every article written about you.

When I was 6 years old, I was kicked out of the children's choir, at school. To this day, over 50 years later, I won't sing in front of anyone.

I realize there's a big difference between being 6 and being 11, but that's still an unacceptable age for them to be picking on.

I don't know, I think it would motivate me to show those gosh-darn Razzie meanies just how good I am!

If she, or any other actor (regardless of age), is unable to deal with criticism (whether serious or in jest) then the film industry is probably not for them, harsh as that may sound. I have a feeling that she may be tougher than some of you think.

That said, good on the organizers for making a change here.

My Son Hunter was snubbed. It was very badly made, regardless of politics. The MyPillow guy’s thing won Worst Picture the year it was out so this should have at least qualified.
