Re: 35th Annual Razzie Nominations

I wanted to like the Transformers movies, but the first 3 I've seen have been pretty bad. I still wonder how many Razzie voters have actually seen the movies they've voted for though.

2016 Razzie Nominations

Because sometimes the bad movies are more fun than the good ones. They've done a special video this time announcing the nominees:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3XRWfZ-zo8w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

But even I found that a bit of a chore to get through so also listing them here:

Fantastic Four
Fifty Shades of Grey

Paul Blart Mall Cop 2
Pixels

WORST ACTOR
Johnny Depp / Mortdecai
Jamie Dornan / Fifty Shades of Grey
Kevin James / Paul Blart Mall Cop 2
Adam Sandler / The Cobbler & Pixels
Channing Tatum / Jupiter Ascending

WORST ACTRESS
Katherine Heigl / Home Sweet Hell
Dakota Johnson / Fifty Shades of Grey
Mila Kunis / Jupiter Ascending
Jennifer Lopez / The Boy Next Door
Gwyneth Paltrow / Mortdecai

WORST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Chevy Chase / Hot Tub Time Machine 2 & Vacation
Josh Gad / Pixels & The Wedding Ringer
Kevin James / Pixels
Jason Lee / Alvin & The Chipmunks: Road Chip
Eddie Redmaine / Jupiter Ascending

WORST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Kayley Cuoco-Sweeting / Alvin & The Chipmunks: Road Chip [Voice Only] & The Wedding Ringer
Rooney Mara / Pan
Michelle Monaghan / Pixels
Julianne Moore / Seventh Son
Amanda Seyfried / Love the Coopers & Pan

WORST REMAKE/RIP-OFF/SEQUEL

Fifty Shades of Grey Screenplay by Kelly Marcel, Based on the Novel by E.L. James
Jupiter Ascending Written by Andy and Lana Wachowski
Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 Screenplay by Kevin James & Nick Bakay
Pixels Screenplay by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling, Story by Herlihy, Based on a Work by Patrick Jean

RAZZIE® REDEEMER AWARD:
Elizabeth Banks (RAZZIE® “Winner” for MOVIE 43 / Multiple Hit Movies This Year)
M. Night Shyamalan (Perennial RAZZIE® nominee & “winner” / THE VISIT)
Will Smith (For following up AFTER EARTH with CONCUSSION)
Sylvester Stallone (All-Time RAZZIE® Champ / Award Contender for CREED)

I still don't like the Razzie Redeemer Award as it's just a bit too positive for this type of award- also wish they'd bring back Worst Original Song. I've seen a number of this year's nominees, "Pixels" could've been a great movie in someone else's hands but even as it was it's hardly the worst movie of the year. I'll back 50 Shades of Grey as the winner; Paul Blart 2 (which I haven't seen- yet) would be too easy.

Was Jupiter Ascending really that bad?

Haven't seen it myself; the trailers and commercials didn't inspire much confidence that it would be the kind of sf I enjoy.

Re: 2016 Razzie Nominations

Haven't seen Jupiter Ascending yet, but the Wachowskis seem to be among their favorite whipping boys (or girls?) along with Adam Sandler. While I love the concept of the Razzies, what I don't like is that those who nominate and vote on them likely haven't actually SEEN the movies, they just grab onto the already-existing hate for them.

Sylvester Stallone was the whipping boy of the 80s. Every movie he starred in he usually got a nomination.

It's not even close to the worst movie I've ever seen, but it's still a steaming pile of crap.

Re: 2016 Razzie Nominations

Jupiter Ascending was horrible, just horrible. I watched the entire 2+ hours on a 14 hour flight from Asia last summer and it was a chore to get through.

I feel sorry for anyone who blind bought it because of the Wachowski's pedigree or thought it looked like an awesome new "Star Wars" type movie. It's a waste of plastic and shelf space.

I've seen 4 of the 5 worst movies (1 in the theater) and that would be my pick for worst movie.

Re: 2016 Razzie Nominations

Looks to me like all the same movies in every category. They picked a group of movies and made sure to keep mentioning them. Lame. No effort.

'Razzies' get a Razzie for being stupid.

Re: 2016 Razzie Nominations

I've seen 4 out of the 5 worst picture nominees (thanks local library ), and even though Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 is flat out dumb and not funny, nothing comes close to how bad Jupiter Ascending was. I'm sure I'll check out Fantastic Four in the next couple weeks once it's pulled, but it can't be as bad as those two.

Re: 2016 Razzie Nominations

Only thing I didn't like about Jupiter Ascending was Mila Kunis' rather blasé acceptance at the beginning of the whole experience, anybody else would have reacted with a bit more incredulity, other than that I thought the movie was pretty good (nowhere near Oscar material but entertaining nonetheless). Also liked Seventh Son although I thought Jeff Bridges could have enunciated a bit more clearly.

Re: 2016 Razzie Nominations

I wonder if it would be a first for someone to possibly win both an Oscar and Razzie in the same year (Eddie Redmayne, Razzie for Jupiter Ascending, Oscar for The Danish Girl)

Re: 2016 Razzie Nominations

It's pretty clear they just pick a few big name movies with recognizable stars as nominations to fill the press release up.

Has anyone paid attention to the Razzies in years?

Re: 2016 Razzie Nominations

Another person here who thought Jupiter Ascending was awful. I thought the worst thing about that movie was probably Eddie Redmayne. I thought his performance was absolutely embarrassing. I know he's a really strong actor, but I don't know what he was thinking during this one.

Re: 2016 Razzie Nominations

Should replace Jupiter Ascending with Hot Pursuit a truly garbage film that had zero redeeming factors. Goes in with Worst Actress as well though I have only seen Jupiter Ascending in that category but surely there is room to bump somebody in favor for Sofía Vergara/Reese Witherspoon combo?

Only movie I attempted to watch was Jupiter Ascending. Didn't catch my interest but I can always try again.

I think Sandra Bullock did.

Oscar for Blind Side
Razzie for All About Steve
In 1989, Tom Cruise was in both the Best and Worst Picture winners- Rain Man and Cocktail.

Yes, Hot Pursuit was pretty bad- I reviewed it here and was actually a bit too kind to it, giving it a "rent it" rating- it was rather well photographed, and on actual FILM!

How is that different from any other movie awards? "The Revenant" has 12 Oscar nominations, for example.

No studio spends a lot of money trying to get multiple Razzie nominations.

Shouldn't Concussion also be included in the worst picture category?

Then why do they keep hiring Adam Sandler?
