Would you care?

If you could buy the movie on it's theatrical release date: would you? Would it bother you if you couldn't see a movie in a big theatre anymore?

I hardly ever go to the movies anymore. Usually I have to be really looking forward to the movie for me to go see it. Meanwhile when it comes to DVD, I'm more likely to give a movie a chance. You?

I agree, but its more about the prices. I love seeing movies in the theaters. Its a fun experience for me, but the prices have caused me to go less and less. Of course if there were no more theaters I would freak out. What the hell would I do for dates? I have no imagination....I'd be screwed.

I tend to laugh out loud at comedies more in crowds. So the theater experience actually makes funny movies funnier for me.

I would care in the sense that without theaters, studios wouldn't make enough money. Thus they would die, thus no more movies. Otherwise I wouldn't care. I go to the theater maybe once a year.

It would bother me some, as you just can't top seeing the movie on a HUGE screen with a great sounding and super loud theater surround setting at home.

Assuming of course the audience doesn't ruin it for you. Fortunately, I generally have pretty good experiences, not going on weekend nights (or weekends in general often) helps a lot as you miss a lot of the teens and parents with small kids that way.

I would, but I'm not a very social person. My best movie theater experiences have been in theaters with less than ten people in attendance. I've never been lucky enough to be the only person in the theater, but I've gotten pretty close a couple of times.

Oh come on, you know. It's where you pay a fortune for a soda in order to listen to people talking on their cellphones.

There's something to be said for the communal movie-watching experience, even if it is exasperating 75% of the time. I guess I'd miss it if I couldn't go--but I hardly ever do anyway.

No. I live one block from a very nice stadium-seat theater. I went to see 3 movies last year.

I wouldn't buy a movie in the alternative, but I would certainly consider paying $5 or $6 to rent it, or better yet video-on-demand if offered in HD.

The actual movie theater experience is terrible. You have noisy idiots, cell phones, people getting up over and over again and walking in front of you. It's terrible.

If there was a movie I knew I'd like, I'd buy it upon release, just like a video game. In fact, I cant wait for that day to happen.

Agreed, I think the whole industry would take a significant hit and the quality of future productions would suffer.

Well all things being equal (that is that future productions would continue) I wouldnt mind. I go see movies in the theatres just because I dont want to wait. If they came out to dvds on opening day, I would maybe see 3 movies in the theatres during the year.

I wouldn't miss them - having the movies I want to see on DVD on their "release day" would be fine with me.

Haven't had too many bad experiences lately, but the only reason we go to the theater is to see things we want to see, not because it's in a theater.

I would absolutely miss it. I average about 85 movies a year at the theatre (and would go more if selection/time permitted).

I'd give up my home theater and all my DVDs before I'd give up going to the cinema.

Theaters must live. Nothing like the big screen experience. Still, it would be much better if all the asshole people that talk, etc. during the movie were never allowed to return.

I probably wouldn't miss it too much, but I don't go to the theater very often. I go to more concerts in a month than I do movies in a whole year.

Because I don't, and that is the number one reason I don't get excited about going to the theater anymore. If it will never get better, why would I go back?

Yes, I would. There's something about actually going to the threatre, getting a big bag of popcorn, and watching as the film starts to roll. I don't go very often due to crowd problems and the cost... but, for the few new titles that I really want to see, I cherish the experience.

The Bus

To all you people who hate the movies: Have you gone recently late on a school night? Sunday nights are one of my favorites. Of course in the summer it doesn't matter, but seeing movies on school nights or "serious" movies during matiness means I never have to deal with assholes.

Last time there were idiots in the audience was for a Saturday night showing of Dark Water. It reminded me why I don't like going on weekend nights.

Yeah, go late on school nights or to an early Saturday morning showing if you can't catch a weekday early afternoon matinee (the most empty time) due to work.

Rarely have any problems at any of those showings as there are few people there, those that are are 99% adults and probably big movie fans since they're going at an odd time.

Honestly, I've never been a fan of theaters although I still go obviously to see movies I'm interested in. I skip on a lot of movies because I'd rather watch them in the comfort of my own home. If all movies were released on DVD the same day as theaters I'd go for the DVD every time.
