1 and Only Movie Figures and Collectibles Discussion

Judging from pics in the dvd talk forum, there are plenty of collectors on here for figures. Anything related to McFarlane, NECA, or similar stuff should be posted here.

Before I moved to NC, I had a ton of McFarlane figures. I made the mistake of giving them away to my friends before I left. I didn't have room for them at the time and didn't think to add them with my dvd collection, as many do here. I was a store manager of Spencer Gifts at the time, so I had access to all the figures we carried. Plus that 25% discount didn't hurt. If I recall, I had the following:

18" McFarlane Figures
-Leatherface (from original) :brickwl2:
-Edward Scissorhands
-Freddy Kreuger
-Jason Voorhees :brickwl2:
-Ash
-Michael Myers

Also had these boxed sets:
-Jaws :brickwl2:
-King Kong :brickwl2:
-Alien Queen :brickwl2:
-12" Predator
-12" Alien

Had these 6-7" Figures:
-Norman Bates
-The Crow
-Michael Myers
-Jason
-Freddy
-Chucky
-Terminator and T-1000
and several others

Freddy vs Jason boxed set
Michael Myers vs Loomis boxed set

I had enough to fill an entire bookcase.

Alot of these are now being released by NECA, who does great work. I've just ordered the Kong boxed set and am going to try and locate some of these to spruce up my dvd collection.

Any comments, news, pics regarding figures, post away!

having said all that, here's what NECA is offering in their Series 3 of Cult Classics:
-John McClane
-T-800 Endoskeleton
-Bubba Ho-Tep from "Bubba Ho-Tep"
-Flyboy Zombie from the original "Dawn of the Dead"
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...ures_1878_.jpg

Not sure when they will be available.

this looks cool, McReady vs Dog Thing, comes out in June

I'm a McFarlane fanboy. Articulation might suck but they make up for it with their quality (if you can believe it, I've only had one broken figure since I started collecting about 5 years ago), sculpt and price. Imho, most of the McFarlane figs look better than statues that sell for $40 or more. I think McFarlane is losing it by not acquiring movie rights the fans want. Everybody wanted a John McClane and that Donnie Darko bunny, yet he chose not to do it. Now he's focusing on "3d" posters, that costs around $20 a pop.

I don't like Neca's style. The faces look crappy and the paint looks cheap, look at John McClane.

Mezco I'm starting to love. The comic book Hellboy figs are awesome as hell(pun intended). I'd say it's the best line of 2005, followed by Corpse Bride from McFarlane.

How's your hdtv by the way?

devilshalo 01-18-06 11:51 AM

I wish Art Asylum would do more movie figures than Star Trek ones. The Bruce ones weren't bad, but I didn't need or want them to be articulated. I guess I'm so conditioned by McFarlane for there to be no articulation.

cerial442 01-18-06 12:05 PM

I've heard that the John McClane figure will have an R-Rated sound chip with him. Should be very cool.

Shaun from Shaun of the Dead is confirmed for the Cult Classics Series 4 line.

I've been impressed with that line so far. The only one I was disappointed in was the Jason figure. It was the exact same design as the one McFarlane released. They should have made a stand alone one based on Freddy vs. Jason.

It's doing very well. Finally getting it broken in. I haven't been able to get a a/v disc yet, but the settings look pretty good. I picked up my HD box today during my break. So when I get home, I'll be ready for some HD programming.

Jackskeleton 01-18-06 02:32 PM

I think I've made my stance on McFarlane already known. I dislike them. The plastic smells funky and the articulation is just god awful. It works for a poor man's statue but it sure doesn't take long before dust gets on it and completely ruins the way it looks forever more.

I'm enjoying the NECA figures myself. They have good sculptures and at the least they have some articulation to them.

I'm a Sideshow fan myself. Especially with their new Star Wars 12" and 1/4 lines & LOTR 12" & 1/4 lines. You can check their site out at sideshowcollectibles.com.

A couple figures I have on order:

12" exclusive Luke:

1/4 25" exclusive General Grievous:
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/mas_asset...61_image01.jpg

1/4 22.5" exclusive Lurtz in Armour:
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/mas_asset...ress01-001.jpg

The 12" Star Wars line is so hot the exclusive version sells out within an hour. They are releasing their 4th figure in the line this Friday, that being Jedi Kit Fisto.

devilshalo 01-18-06 02:51 PM

When was Luke a Jawa?

;)

DVDho78DTS 01-18-06 02:52 PM

Oh, some of the Marvel fans might have liked this piece with an edition size of only 50.

Gray Hulk VS Spider-Man:

I want that Hulk.

Tee Hee.

The figure is already selling for 3 times the selling price on eBay. It is easily the best 12" figure of Luke on the market and really the only one that captures his likeness from ROTJ. Tons of accessories too. :)

The Cult Classics Jason (Friday the 13th Part 7) was based off of Neca's first 18" Jason, not a McFarlane design. Neca also released a second 18" Jason, based off of the 7" Jason figure from their Freddy vs Jason boxed set. McFarlane has never made an 18" Jason figure.

As for my collection, I have:

Freddy - Freddy vs Jason (Neca)
Jason - Friday the 13th Part VII (Neca)

Pinhead - Hellraiser (Neca)
Chatterer - Hellraiser (Neca)
Endoskeleton - Terminator 2 (Neca)
The Bride - Kill Bill (Neca)
Robocop (Neca)

6-7" Movie Maniacs

Freddy
Jason

Series 2

I thought the Gray Hulk ES at 50 was interesting move by Sideshow, especially with most of their *new* stuff selling below retail on Ebay.

I'm surprised they didn't increased the ES like they did with the Doom EX.

That would have been nice. Did you see the Beast Maquette when it was up? I'd post a picture but the thread might get moved to the adult forum.

Awful POS statue.....

Mr. Cinema 01-18-06 04:13 PM

I have several Hulk figures (my favorite superhero character). Most are older smaller ones. The newest ones I have are the Marvel Legend green Hulk with shirt and without.

riley_dude 01-18-06 04:28 PM

Wonder when they are coming out with Brokeback Mountain figures??

I have the Spidey, Batman and Superman on my computer at home.

Cameron 01-18-06 06:55 PM

just today i was thinking of selling off a ton of stuff....not sure the best place to do it, as I'd like to unload the lot. I have about 50 sealed marvel legends, some various dc stuff, and 12 inchers for Young Frankenstein and a few universal monsters....i just want them out of my apartment...

might try craigslist unless anyone else has suggestions.

Wait until the next ebay .10 listing special to unload everything and save on fees.

Jackskeleton 01-18-06 08:58 PM

I would actually hold on to the Legends. With all the shake up that is going on and the potential rumor that Legends line might be done with Marvel moving to different companies they could be worth something..

If not, just contact me. I know a good number of people who are Legends nuts.

MasterofDVD 01-18-06 09:26 PM

I used to be a huge toy collector but got turned off to it by all the exclusives and stuff they put out. Palisades was doing a great job with the Muppets but before you knew it there were 3 variants of a figure and then there was one you could only get at a toy show. I understand this is part of the business these days but I lack the funds or patience to chase down these figures. I used to buy all the Movie Maniac figures and display them proudly until they put out all the Texas Chainsaw Massacre figures out in there MM line. That was enough to keep my from buying anything Todd and his people have put out since.

I used to keep a variety of things out but now my big things are my Kevin Smith Inaction Figures, my Mulder and Scully busts, my Matrix figures and busts, my dagger from The Shadow, my Shrek figures, my Holy Grail 12 Inch figures and a few random posters and film cells. The only toys I even follow these days are the Inaction Figures.

I can't wait. :)

I love that NECA has got some sweet movie licenses but their stuff doesn't even come close to touching McFarlane. It's a shame too, I'd be all over a McFarlane Patrick Bateman. That Napolean Dynamite stuff that McFarlane did is amazing.

Mr. Cinema 01-19-06 08:10 AM

I just bought the Freddy vs Jason boxed set. Only $15 because the box is damaged. I'm going to open these anyway. They seem to sell these cheaper if the packaging is damaged.

Mr. Cinema 01-19-06 09:34 AM

Did Mcfarlane lose all the rights to all the monster flicks to NECA?

The only monster related stuff coming out are new 12" Grid Alien, a 12" Scar Predator, and 12" Stealth Scar Predator. But, there is a "Bram Stoker's Dracula" boxed set coming out.

Mr. Cinema 01-19-06 09:47 AM

This comes out in April from NECA - 18" Balrog:

Yeah, I'd say Neca's main weakness is human likenesses. They're not bad, but not as good as they could be. I will say McFarlane is hit or miss here, too, though. The Napoleon Dynamite stuff is spot on, but stuff like TCM's Erin (from the last Movie Maniacs line) is way off, even if the detail is there.

My biggest gripe about McFarlane's newer stuff is that it is sometimes 'overposed'. Certain figures are in weird poses, or poses that only work in they are on their specific base. I know they are going for a semi-statue look, but I generally prefer 'iconic' poses than 'action' poses.

I think most of these licenses are limited-time ventures and McFarlane lost the rights long ago. They can make specific figures in that time-window, but it expires after awhile. And sometimes I think they are even for specific items. For example, McFarlane had a 7" Robocop last year, and a 12" one this past year. Meanwhile, Neca released an 18" Robocop around the same time as McFarlane's 12 incher. So the two competing comapnies were releasing Robocops in the same time frame.

As for new stuff, it seems like McFarlane is moving away from the Movie Maniacs-type stuff. They don't even seem to be competing for any of the new or unused licenses anymore, and they're all going to Neca and SOTA.

hytec 01-26-06 04:51 PM

Any good suggestions for sites to pre-order/purchase the NECA McClane, Hulk, etc.? After a quick :google: seach I came across a store called CornerStoreComics. They had the NECA McClane available for pre-order for a reasonable price. Has anyone ordered from them before or have any other good figure sites??

Mr. Cinema 01-26-06 04:58 PM

Amazon.com sells figures for Toys R Us. They carry quite a bit.

http://www.monstersinmotion.com/catalog/

Haven't ordered from that one, but the site is loaded with stuff.

I have ordered from Amazon before and was quite disappointed on the way they packaged their products. I ordered some Star Wars Unleashed figures and they folded the tops of the figure cases in order to fit in a smaller box. I usually display my figures in the cases but these we so badly damaged I ended up opening them. I don't think I will be ordering from Amazon anytime soon.

Thanks for the store link though, I will certainly check it out...:D
