Technically this is based on a movie, right?

Basically hasbro is crowdfunding a 27 inch unicron:
https://hasbropulse.com/products/tra...ertron-unicron

At this point I kind of doubt they'll get the 8000 backers they need at $575 a piece, but it's impressive to say the least. I'm on the fence.

That Unicron looks so freaking cool but where the heck are you going to put that?

Am I the only one that finds it strange that Hasbro is crowdfunding a toy? I guess they wanted it to make sure that they will have buyers for this.

Yeah it's more making sure there's enough interest (and like I said before, there probably isn't) before they actually go and make this. Which I don't mind, because there's no way a store would carry this. Like I can't even imagine how much this thing would cost to ship (shipping is thankfully included in the quoted price).

They did the same thing with the 500 dollar Jabba's Barge, where they got like 8000 backers and they needed a minimum of 5000. I just looked and they have a cookie monster as well now:

It wouldn't surprise me if it got crowd funded but honestly i have no use for something like that.

Re: 1 and Only Movie Figures and Collectibles Discussion

I ordered two. One for each mode.

The Cookie Monster is probably not going to make it. I backed it as well but only for one.

If we use the data for Jabba's Sail Barge, this is on track to hit the 8k backers, but it will barely do it. The sail barge had a huge surge at the end that put it over the 5k backer mark (and eventually 8k).

Here's hoping it makes it as it will look great in my collection. I'm a sucker for these special low volume toys even if they cost a fortune.

The problem Hasbro might have in reaching that number of backers is Zeta toys is also making a Unicron figure, which will probably be more screen accurate, and it is rumored to be at least 40 inches. Hasbro is designing their to fit their Seige line instead of an Masterpiece design.

I know scale is tough when it comes to figured this size, but I just sold a G1 Fortress Maximus and he was 22 inches tall. If I was collecting I’d feel a little let down that a planet-sized Transformer wasn’t much bigger.

Re: 1 and Only Movie Figures and Collectibles Discussion

The other factor, besides shelf space, is how a big figure like that is going to hold up AND how fun/easy it is to transform. The last thing you want is for it to be a floppy mess or for it to be so cumbersome to transform that nobody in their right mind even tries it. I think at a certain point it's just too big, even for me. I mean if you really want to scale this with masterpiece in any meaningful way, even in his "smaller" robot form, rodimus and co. went out through one of the eyes... how big is that going to be?

That Zeta Unicron looks cooler, and has less kibble.

Probably old news but Kenner released a retro collection.

Now I can have a chance on getting the toys I missed out on as a kid though don't want to get carried away and collect them all or pay a fortune.

Maybe Luke, Stormtrooper. Lando, Fett, and Solo and then stop.

Probably the money people spent on crowdfunding could have been used to buy the toy.

It was, that's how crowdfunding works.

Re: 1 and Only Movie Figures and Collectibles Discussion

It was far enough along that I think they were going to make it either way, but crowdfunding gets people hyped, gets people to spend now, and then you don't have to bother with retailers (because realistically who is going to stock that thing? Not traditional retailers for sure). I think it works for something like that which you would never see on a store shelf.

I'm surprised Zeta's Unicron is still being released. I heard Hasbro was going after them.

What I'm not surprised at, is the hype regarding the figure. Transformers fans absolutely love Unicron and he's only ever been available in the Transformers Armada Line (in the States), initially with his 1986 color scheme, then released with different repaints. In Japan, Takara/Tomy released him in 2010, as a re-issue.

Also Hasbro's Crowdfunded Unicron looks a lot more like how he did in the 1986 film than the Armada figure did.

If I remember right, the Transformers Armada Unicron was only 15" tall.

This Crowdfunded Version being almost twice the size of the previous release is pretty awesome!

For any possible Robocop fans out there- there's a licensed plastic and metal model kit standing just under 8" due out next spring.

I wish I had grabbed one of the Hot Toys Robocop figures when they were available. Specifically I’d want the battle damaged Robocop and Alex Murphy two pack. Goes for quite a bit used now.

Yeah, those prices are insane.

I remember when it was discounted a few times and still wasn't sold out.

Every time I see this picture in an email, I think the figure is holding panties.

Preordered one of these by JND Studios. Queen Studios is also releasing their 1/4 scale version both with sculpted/rooted hair.

Re: 1 and Only Movie Figures and Collectibles Discussion

Damn bro! That's a deep pocket purchase right there. JND looks like they do good work though, and 1/3 is a great scale IMO. Congratulations!

If I wasn't skating on thin ice already, I'd love to get one of the Queen or Infinity Busts.

Over $4K, it only went up a couple days ago and it's already waitlisted.

This one is pretty impressive too

Yeah... I wanted that Lee one, but it's damn pricey for a bust. The QS Wonder Woman and Alita busts are still on my radar.

The Mera bust can still be ordered at Spec Fiction.
