One last big toy purchase for a while.

I had my eye on the Sideshow version of this, but had a few nitpicks about it that kept me from pulling the trigger- and so I ended up using all my rewards points on the new Red Sonja (which kicks all kinds of ass BTW).

So when I saw Neca was putting out a similar scaled version (specifically for use with their 7" figures), I jumped.

The big difference is that the Neca is made of foam whereas the Sideshow is far more durable polystone. Since it's only for looks, I'm not too concerned that it's only foam. You certainly can't tell just by looking at it.
For almost $400 less shipped (SS is $600+ shipping, this was $270 shipped), if I can get 10+ years out of it, I'll be happy.

I wasn't going to totally unwrap it until I could build a riser for it (that's what the amazon box is standing in for) but decided to check it out a little closer.
Paint apps and casting could be better, but in my thinking there's some latitude with this given it's state in the film.

Besides the riser, I'm going to try to hunt down a small blue LED to backlight it at night.

Found the LEDS and got something to work as a riser.
It's just a round, paper machie box I found at Michaels, but I'll gussy it up with some 2"x2" posts glued around the outside and give it all a coat of black paint.

I have the Sideshow version which I thought was great. Although the Hot Toys versions usually put the Sideshow versions to shame even though they cost way more.

I like the Hot Toys R2 for the sound effects and the diecast dome in addition to the light up features. The price seems a bit much in my opinion though. He's coming in at $220 before shipping. Still though I probably will end up upgrading from the Sideshow version (but I may keep Sideshow's too and set it up with the drink tray from the Jabba's Sail Barge scene). I'm more interested in a Hot Toys 3PO to be honest. I'm hoping that Hot Toys will do a diecast version of 3PO with an interchangeable right ankle/foot and left arm.

I'm glad I don't really feel the need to collect Iron Man. There are just way too many to try and get. I have the diecast XLII and Iron Patriot. I might get either the Mark VI or XLVI but otherwise I'm about done with the character.

I think it's more just that variants of those characters are easy to pump out. Iron Man sells pretty well but I've noticed a lot of the HPP armors get clearanced out eventually. I think Hot Toys really over estimated demand for Troopers when The Force Awakens came out too as most of those are clearanced and I don't think they made as many for Rogue One.

I'm waiting for film versions of the original cast to come out before getting any figures. More interested in The Next Generation though. Ash looks good but I'm not pre-ordering anything Sideshow anymore. Wouldn't mind getting their Jason and Freddy if they come out good too.

I don't have much experience with Big Chief Studios figures. Reading other opinions it sounds like they either really hit big or can have some production issues. Personally I'm not enough of a Bond fan.

It only took 25 years, but it's nice to finally get some Batman Returns villain figures with solid actor likenesses. NECA just released their 1/4 scale Catwoman. This one set me back about $100. The figure comes with two head sculpts, alternate hands, a whip and taser.

The "battle damaged" head is the main reason I picked this figure up. I can really see Michelle Pfeiffer in there. Sculpting a beautiful woman is always difficult and most female action figures come off looking a bit mannish. Even with the extreme expression on this head sculpt, it still looks feminine.

The human faces on these NECA 1/4 scale figures are slightly off on the best of days (they usually have a weird pinched quality), so the fact that Pfeiffer's likeness comes through at all is a small miracle. The synthetic hair is kind of a pain to deal with. It's very wiry -- every lock is a straight-up cowlick. It took me a good half hour to get the strands to lay on the sides of her head and not flip up over the tips of the cat ears.

The alternate head has a more generic likeness, imo. She seems to be staring downward and has a vacant expression. The eye shadow is also painted on too thick. It's still a decent sculpt, but I doubt I'll ever display the figure with this head.

I like the new Rocket. I think I'll get it eventually even though the price is a bit more than I'd like. The new sculpt is better than the first and the figure has more accessories.

It sucks to see something go up for pre-order with a release date that's estimated for a year out. My biggest complaint about this hobby really.

On a serious note, did you get the early releases and if so, how did you stop the discoloration of the red armor?

The KA shields are now hard to get for a decent price. BBTS was having a whole bunch of eBay auctions to get rid of their KA stuff since they couldn't really sell it in their store due to North America licensing issues. I picked up all three shields from them at different times. The scepter I got from them as well through pre-order. Just got the Tessaract from an reputable eBay seller in China. I'm hoping to pickup the Captain America Golden Age/Heater Shield sometime soon to complete the collection. The prices on eBay are brutal for that so who knows when that will happen.

It was harder to pickup all of the Hall of Armors. I bought them all at different times and just got the last set of 7 two weeks ago. I'm glad that's over with.

My Mark IV and VI have the discoloration on the back side only so you don't notice it as much. Luckily I have the Mark VI diecast on pre-order to replace that and it's only a matter of time before the do the Mark IV die cast. I only plan to get the first 7 armors in die cast. I'm praying that Hot Toys doesn't stop making the rest of the suits. I want to be able to see all the Hall of Armors filled.

The HulkBuster hasn't come out yet. It's supposed to be released in 2nd half of 2017. Hopefully it's not delayed again. I plan on replacing my Hot Toys Avengers diorama with a Hulk and HulkBuster diorama. Already have the Hot Toys A:AOU Hulk just waiting for his opponent.

I don't buy a lot of this kind of stuff but as soon as I saw this, I had to preorder it. Norm Breyfogle is my all time favorite Batman artist. Not a perfect rendition of the Detective Comics #587 cover it is portraying but still looks great. I hope they send some money to Norm.

I'm kinda surprised they don't have the license for the CW DC shows, though I guess that could eventually conflict with the cinematic universe, and they can't all sell like Batman.

They only just started doing TV figures. The Daredevil and Punisher figures and the 66 Batman and Robin are all they've done (though I'm not sure if the 66 figures are based on the show or the movie). I think Star Ace has the license for CW DC shows but I don't think they've revealed anything yet.
