Reno 911: The Movie

The news of this announcement can be found here. Shooting starts on January 23rd for a mid-to-late 2006 release date on Reno 911: Miami.

I'm a fan of the series, so the news of this announcement gets a .

What I'm surprised more about is that this is the fourth film in the past few months to be based off a cult television show. We got Serenity in September, we have Aqua Teen Hunger Force: The Movie and Strangers With Candy: The Movie to look forward to later this year (both have already been completed), and now we have this.

I actually support this trend instead of having Hollywood studios give us shitty parodies of television shows from the sixties and seventies. I'd rather take five Reno 911 films over one shitty adaptation of Bewitched or Starsky and Hutch.

I love the first season but was not too crazy about season 2. Have not seen season 3.

I'll definitely go see this.

Same here. The first season DVD set were my most watched DVDs for a long time. I still watch it from time to time and always get a chuckle.

I felt the same way about Arrested Development. The first season was gold, almost the perfect comedy, but I felt that the second season went for easy, more sitcom-y jokes. It was still good, but it definitely lost something.

And I'm ashamed to say that I didn't watch much of Season 3, and I'm not sure if I will.

Yeah, but it is currently in limbo; it is without a distributor (or something like that).

Yeah, Warner bought it at Sundance last year and it was originally supposed to come out in October, but they got cold feet and gave the film back.

The same situation is currently occuring over at that studio with the Aqua Teen Hunger Force film. They provided the creators a million dollars to make the film, but now they don't know what to do with the film now that it's completed.

I believe there was a problem clearing rights for some stuff in the background of scenes in Strangers with Candy.

This could either be really good or really horrible.

That's what I heard...but it wasn't just SOME STUFF, it was like A LOT OF STUFF... I heard there were dozens of scenes that featured things they didn't have clearances for...so the cost of getting the rights may make the budget way too high for this type of cult release...at least, that's what I heard...with Colbert's popularity rising, hopefully they'll find a way to get this out SOMEHOW...I'll settle for a DVD if that's all we can get! I'm sure the RENO team will be a lot more cautious when it comes to this type of thing...

I thought season 1 and 2 were about equal and have only seen bits and pieces of season 3 but have loved it... Such great characters.

Strangers With Candy was produced independently (and later bought by Warner). Reno 911 is being produced between 20th Century Fox and Paramount.

Hell yeah. I'll be there opening night!

Tarantino, if you thought the trailer looked "fucking hilarious," you really should see the show. Now. The show is genius.

I can just imagine some bits about Scarface/Miami Vice in there, this is going to rule.
Thomas Lennon (Dangle) is a genius, Danny De Vito is behind it too.

I'll wait for word of mouth on this one. I thought the TV shows were hit and miss as they had some very funny stuff, but also some stuff that didn't work and went on for too long.

Saw the trailer before Borat. The crowd was loving it. Should be a fun film to watch with a crowd.

There have been a bunch of college screenings over the past few weeks, the reviews posted on Aint-it-cool over the past 2 weeks said it was hilarious, with a little bit of a lag in the humor in the last third, but still funny.
