If you don't want to watch two men fuck then you are either labeled a homophobe or you're a closet homosexual.

Popcorn...my suggestion, don't try to convince your friends. Go watch the movie yourself & if you enjoy it, tell them about it and why you enjoyed it. If they don't want to go see it at the theater then they may be interested enough to check out when it comes on video. If they don't want to see it for any reason, then that it their right.

And for the people who want you to get new friends...F 'em. It's no crime to pass on a movie if you don't want to see certain love scenes. My Dad has no interest in seeing Showgirls because of the explicit nudity and sex/rape scenes. Does that make him a terrible person? Should I berate him and call him ignorant & a soft core-a-phobe?

Should I look for a new Dad?

Dumb.

This is endemic of what gay people have to put up with. This is not a movie about "two men fuck(ing)".

I'll repeat what I said earlier: THIS IS NOT PORN. This is a romance story between two men. If someone has a problem watching even that, then yes, they have some sort of issue.

But I know, it's easier to boil gay people down to sex.

I don't care about all that mushy stuff. Do they eat pudding?

I'd say bring them only if they can be mature....if they need to profess their manliness by quipping unequivical "ews" and "gross" throughout the movie, then please leave them at home.

It may not be a movie about it but this thread is about it. The original poster wanted to know about the intimate scenes between the two male characters, not their romance story. Take the whining to a thread that deserves it.

Here's a novel idea...don't watch or support movies with hetero romances & sex. Support movies with gay romances and gay characters but don't cry foul when some in the straight community don't have an interest in it.

And before you cry that's impossible...welcome to life as a minority.

I have several gay friends and we discuss everything. I have never heard the kind of whimpering that you see in these threads.

Ah, thanks for all the replies everyone. I think I'll probably end up seeing this by myself. Now that I'm out of film school I'm back to hanging out with friends who aren't so indie tolerant. So, maybe when it comes out I can a get a girl to go with me. Thanks again.

Why do straight people have to be attacked and called names if they don't want to see this movie? Some people disagree with the subject matter. That's life. Not everyone is the same. How controversial would the subject matter be if everyone accepted it? Surely it wouldn't be getting this much attention if it was about a cowboy and cowgirl.

Forcing people to accept this alternate lifestyle or else is just making people even further divided on the subject. Fine, you're gay. Fine, you approve of people being gay. Just go to the movie and enjoy it.

As much as I might try, I can't get my Yankee fan friends to appreciate the Mets. That's just the way things are. Some people just have no interest in seeing this movie. You shouldn't enjoy it any less because of that.

Hey, atleast you get to see anne hathaway's jugs. That should reassure any person going in that there's enough for all parties involved.

You're totally missing the point. I don't care about watching heterosexual romance or sex. I imagine most other gay people don't, either.

My point is, a straight person that has a problem with watching a gay romance has a larger issue that they need to address. In the end, it's all about not wanting to think about gay sex. I honestly am digusted at the thought of having sex with a woman, but I am somehow able to watch heterosexual romances without dry heaving. It's called being a mature adult.

I think it's because straight people are all around you while most don't see gay people everywhere. There aren't any other issues at hand. Being mature is also to respect other people's opinions without trying to place "issues" on them.

Me too. I don't like mushy crap at all, no matter who's getting all mushy.

Riley don't get so riled up man. I was responding to a (somewhat off-topic) comment, with what I considered a meaningful question. In my several yrs here I've never posted a derogatory post.

And count me in with the others who've said they aren't interested in the romance story, regardless of who it's between. Fair enough?

Yeah, but in this film you never know whether they're gonna get mushy or punch each other out! Totally manly!

I have zero interest in this film for a number of reasons.

1. I am not into romance movies
2. I don't like cowboys
3. I'm not a Heath Ledger fan
4. Rex Reed loved it, which means it sucks.

Okay, I made the last one up, but I still won't pay to see this flick. If it shows up on A&E or Oxygen channel next week, as I suspect it might, I may watch a bit of it to see what all the hype is about.

It just screams "Made for TV after school special". This is the one your parents don't want you to watch.

Don't bother with your friends, as there is a pretty blatant scene of manly love and plenty of snuggling. Sad if no one can see past that though, as it is a terrific story.

This jumped out at me. In the first post, you were trying to see if your "homophobic" friends would be OK with a gay movie with intimate scenes.

Now, you say you're going to see it by yourself. And then you say you'll see if you can get a girl to go with you. Are you afraid that you'll look gay if you don't take a girl?

Assuming you're a straight male, this seems like it could be homophobic behavior on your part.

This is a serious question and I'm not trying to start a fight... just honestly wondering.
