oh and on a side note, did anyone catch last Saturday's night's ABC presentation of The Sound of Music? In Hi-Definition? I would love to hear if the HiDef edition was better than the new DVD edition, if it used the same video master (for the DVD) or a 65mm print source?

Another thing, the larger format film should require a lot more light during filming which will also raise the cost of production.

So Malick's new film is shot "mostly" on 65mm according to Aint It Cool. Where can we see it on 70mm? EDIT: Eh, I guess we won't. IMDB says "select" scenes shot on 65mm and the film is printed on 35mm. |
Last saturday I saw a Todd-AO 70mm print of Hello, Dolly! at the American Film Institute's Silver Theatre - and, oh.. my ... stars! The colors! the sound! FANTASTIC! The hat store, the Harmonia Gardens - the beginning of the parade had my hairs on my neck stand up - I had forgotten how visually stunning 70mm was, this was my first Todd-AO 'experience'. Can't wait to see how Todd-AO 30fps will look on the new upcoming HiDef DVD's - come on Fox, replicate these films for reference quality demo HD-discs.
