I agree, this and the Superman Returns trailer are prime examples of ones that start off lackluster but once the music takes over they get you interested.

Ali withstanding, I'm a big fan of Michael Mann; even Manhunter was good for its time IMO. Since he is the creator of the original Miami Vice, I doubt Mann will let this slip into typical Hollywood fare. Mann knows how to keep the right balance of human drama and kick ass action (Heat, Collateral, even Last of the Mohicans), so I expect nothing less from this one.
Also, while I typically try to stay neutral on a film's rating, I hope this gets an R rating and keeps it. Miami Vice always was more adult material, and that trailer made it look like an adult action movie, which we haven't really seen since, well, almost since Collateral.

Personally, I think that's one of the best trailers I have ever seen. Michael Mann movies rock.

Anyone know what kind of car Crocket is driving? Mann had to put him in a Ferrari, but what model?

I want to know the run-time of this thing - I hope it's 150-180 minutes long.

They only showed a quick glimpse of the back of the car on the trailer and I haven't seen anything on the released promos pictures for this movie about the car but my guess will be that the Ferrari that Crockett is driving is a 360 Spider. I figured that since in the original TV series, he drove a Ferrari Daytona Spyder (which was later replaced by the Testarrosa), Mann might be sticking with the same namesake car.

Looks good. Some of the snippets though remind me of the episode "Smuggler's Blues" from season 1 where Crockett & Tubbs go undercover to the drug dealer's hideout.

i love how people say, "lolz, miami vice a stupid 80's remake" yet they fail to see the genius that is michael mann. also, i agree that the traileer is awesome. i'm not that big a jay z or linkin park fan, but when that beat kicks in, it does get you hype. i love cranking it up in the theatre when it plays and the dts kicks in. you see the crowd getting into it.

Haha...good call. I think Glen Frey was in that episode (he sang the song).

Just saw a TV spot and it looks like their going with the R rating.

Not that this really surprises me, the show was pretty close to being R rated for its time, and I knew Mann wouldn't want to sugar coat it for the big screen. I just hope this movie doesn't end up like Collateral, where it gets glowing reviews all around and winds up not doing all it could because of the R rating. True, the movie might be crap, but I have faith in Mann, and I figure if this movie were a true piece of crap, they would be trying to cut it for a PG-13 to maximize opening weekend sales as oppose to doing something that could hinder it with this rating.

Has there even been an R rated movie released this Summer? This and Snakes on a Plane are the only ones I can think of right now.

Just saw the trailer and such. I'm down. The music looks like it will be a GREAT fueling force in the flick. Course, I like all of Mann's work I've seen (haven't seen Ali). This looks like it won't dissapoint.

Even though it was expected, I have to say that I was happy to see the "R" rating during the tv trailer, too.

Also if I'm not mistaken Miami Vice was the first show to include music to help set the mood for a particular scene. That was it's signature.

Agreed that was a signature. Another, and arguably stronger signature, was its use of color. The tv series was probably the first to incorporate color via the medium of television and make it part of its style.

I remember seeing the original commercial for the TV series back in 1984 and they showed parts of the black Daytona while "In the Air Tonight" played in the background. I thought it looked so cool. It was the reason I even wanted to watch the show since it was my favorite Ferrari. Boy, was I disappointed to see that it was a fake. Obviously, it would have been crazy to use a real one since they were so rare; especially the Spyder. I was so happy when they
Spoiler:
blew it up
and replaced it w/ the Testarossa. I really don't like the TR but at least it was a real Ferrari.

As for the new one; the one take from the rear in the trailer does look like a 360.

as shown clearly in the teaser trailer, the ferrari is a metallic gray 430 coupe.

some posters on imdb claim it is fitted with nos in the story.

I only saw the trailer once and saw the circle tail lights. In the dark it's hard to tell since the configuration is similar.

The Omen
See No Evil
A Scanner Darkly

Then after miami vice, there will be snakes on a plane, and I am sure there will be some others once August gets here.

Haha. Actually, this weekend was it's 3rd. Good example of an R movie that just comes and goes. If it were PG-13, it probably would have done 30mil the first weekend, and died off at around 50mil. But (as of 7/9)...

9 Waist Deep Rog. $1,901,151 -44.6% 864 -142 $2,200 $19,207,640 - 3
