Mentally handicapped protagonists
I'm wondering if I'm alone on this.
I can't stand watching movies with mentally handicapped main characters. I just watched the Korean movie "Marathon", about an autistic boy running marathons. Yeah, one of those cheesy inspirational and based on a true story films. This movie has got to be one of the stupidest I've seen. Oh and this scene: "Hal soo itdah!!!" (English: "I can do it!") UGH... Plus, the mom in this movie irritated the hell out of me. I'm sure my opinion won't be popular.... OH and btw, I hated Rudy, Forrest Gump, Sea Biscuit, Remember the Titans, etc. |
I haven't seen a Pauly Shore movie yet that I've liked.
|
Hmm, not sure if it's where you're headed, but how about MEMENTO?
|
It all depends on how it's acted. I would say The Other Sister & Rain Man are acted VERY well. They are both exceptional movies as well.
I think that the upcoming Ringer LOOKS really insulting. Also, South Park did it first, and way less insulting or humiliating. |
I don't remember a "mentally handicapped" person as a protagonist in "Remember the Titans". Are you sure about that?
|
When I say mentally handicapped, I don't include cases such as amnesia or memory loss.
To put it in a non pc way, I can't stand watching mentally retarded protagonists. Remember the Titans didn't have a mentally handicapped character, but it is also another corny based on a true story movie. I don't like those inspirational based on a true story sports movies. Marathon took this formula, and added an autistic main character....what a terrible combination. |

oh, no I haven't. Thats why I said it looks insulting, but I wasn't gonna say it was insulting since I haven't seen it yet.
|
Is there any point to this thread other than "I hate retards in my movies"? What kind of discussion were you hoping to spark?

There was even an article with Knoxville and one of his co-stars in the new ESPN Magazine. I think it'll surprise a lot of people. |

Personally, I don't really like watching retarded protagonists either (e.g, I Am Sam), but blind/deaf can be unique, as can something like Memento.
|
Even though they are not movies about the mentally handicapped, I thought both Regarding Henry and See No Evil, Hear No Evil were pretty good.
On the flipside, from the pieces of it I've seen, The Waterboy is one of the worst movies I've seen. |
The Other Sister
Great friggin' film. |
Anyone heard of Rainman?

And never touch his ears...

I thought Radio was pretty good. Cuba Gooding Jr. almost convinced me he was retarded in real life after watching that performance.
|
Paging DVDTalker William Wallace.........Karl, uh, huh, would like a word with you!
