Is anyone else tired of "A Christmas Story"
For some reason I started thing about this movie today, maybe its because I was wrapping a couple of gifts; I'm not sure.
Either way, I was thinking about how much my appreciation for this movie has diminished in recent years. I can remember REALLY laughing at the movie the first few years that I saw it. It was a real staple in my parents' household.
Now, the movie has been merchandized to high heaven with lots of miniature statues available at Suncoast and the leg lamp etc. The movie plays for 24 hours and people quote it non-stop during the Christmas season.
I just don't know, for some reason, "You'll shoot your eye out!" really isn't funny anymore. I just wish I hadn't been overexposed to the movie. Anyone else feel similar?

I can see getting tired of it, if you watch it again every single year.
My advice: Try taking a few years off so you can forget some stuff in it, and then watch it again.

<---Very tired of it. The film is not really as ass-bustingly hilarious as everyone pretends it is. Its got some sort of nostalgiac grip on the entire country.

I don't think it has gotten old or overexposed, at least not anymore so than any other classic film. I can't see how merchandising would have any effect on the quality of the film, either.

Still love it. I don't go out of my wat to watch it every year but if it's on television (and it always is) I'll keep it on.
I also bought the leg lamp a few weeks ago and I love it.

I'll never tire of this movie. I watch it several times a year....and I'll watch it several times on tv during Christmas day, if nothing else to piss off the rest of the family I am with.... so I know many of others who get tired of it, but I never will.

I can never get tired of watching it. Does TNT need to play it 24 hours a day on Christmas? Not by a long shot, but it's nice to have in the background during a party or gathering.

Still a good movie, though.

Can't say I do get tired of it. The Old Man gets funnier and funnier with each passing year, even if other things about it aren't as strong as in years past. "I told you not to use Lifeboy!"
One sort of related thing, though. I'm 38, and I have been watching Frosty yearly since I was a toddler. Tried watching it the other night and all I could think is "Boy is this bad!" What next? Will old age make me diss Charlie Brown and Rudolph??? I'm scared.
