anybody here work in the industry?

anybody here know what one needs to do in order to obtain copyright permission to show 30 sec clips? is it even necessary? if so, who at the studios would i want to talk to regarding obtaining permission?

Where are you showing them? Fair use could come into play depending on the venue.

Depends what you are using it for, where you are displaying it, in what context (is it for commercial/editorial use), the particulars of the scene (does it spoil the movie/would showing it devalue the film), etc.

We use 30 seconds or more all the time. For instance, we just ran a 50 Scariest Scenes of all Time feature and had clips of every scene. It's all about context and use.
