if you watch the documentary, one of the squibs went off very loudly during the ending nearly hurting one of the cast members, so thats the main reason Zombie wanted the big finale with cgi blood and gore.

but even amongst all the viciousness and grue, the ending felt like a total letdown - IMO the finale should have have been a extreme bloodbath with blood flying everywhere.

I can't wait for this. I loved Aja's work on Haute Tension.
I usually hate remakes, but I think Aja is perfect for this one.

Can't post my thoughts because quicktime isn't working for me at the moment.
EDIT: I'm up again, looks pretty damn good.

I remember when movies would be released to theaters in two different versions: an R-rated cut and a PG-rated cut (for example, Saturday Night Fever and Excalibur were both released this way). And The Passion of the Christ also got this two-cut theatrical release treatment, although the less gory cut came much later instead of being released at the same time.
So why not release both versions of this movie to theaters: an R-rated cut and an NC-17 rated cut. Then the individual theater chains can choose which version they want to show, or they can show both on different screens in a multiplex. (A theater that shows both versions will get a good idea on which one audiences want to see.)

I think this has serious potential to be better than the original. The trailer looked good-- had the same 'feel' as the original. And Wes Craven is producing it, which helps. Plus I love what Alexandre Aja did in High Tension. Put all that together with the fact that it got an NC-17 from the MPAA... it sounds like they're doing this one justice.

The damn trailer isnt working on my computer. Im still looking forward to this one though, im really glad to see some directors not pussying out because of the MPAA, this does sound promising, high tension was great. Lets see if he can do it again.

I saw this when i went to see Hostel yesterday. BEst trailer experience i've had for awhile. It looked really good. I'm with others on remakes most of time, which means they make me sick, but this does have me interested. Espicially if we get a unrated dvd(a real unrated dvd that is, not one of these ploy unrated discs).

However, Aja did impress me with Haute Tension until he fucked it up with the film's final fifteen minutes. As long as we don't have the family imagining this in their heads or they're pretending to be the mutants themselves, I'll be fine.

Please tell me what is even remotely appealing about seeing normal people on a trip, be trapped and mercilessly tortured, abused, raped, and filetted by freaks all in graphic realistic gory viciousness?
I have noticed this trend also, and it not only is disappointing - it's freaking the hell out of me, that people actually WANT that kind of movie, as opposed to the variety of other horror ideas that are not being made.

Torture is just about the only thing in horror that scares me. Also i like to see the performances from the actors who are getting tortured, raped, abused, etc. Also i like to see how realistic they do that and the gore. That is what is appealing to me about it.

Honestly though I'm not entirely sure why I (or anybody else) think it's cool but I don't really care as long as I'm entertained.
