I actually have the first reel of that movie, that shows the kids laying in the middle of the road during traffic. I also have the letter Disney sent to the theaters asking to replace it with another edited reel and to destroy the original one. I guess I forgot that part.

I also saw the original first full cut of All the Pretty Horses with Billy Bob Thornton in the theater. That was a long ass 4 hours.

Yeah, that's the two-night TV version that was shown in the States as well - Zod throws a police siren at the kid. Easy to see why that got cut in the theatrical version.

From Dusk to Dawn workprint was popular back in tape trading days. I think Phantasm workprint was another and quite a few others

for years Death Wish 2 totally uncut (Venuzela only) was rare as hell

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but you're responding to a post made 14 years ago. And the author of that post, DonnachaOne, hasn't shown up on this board in almost four years.

There's a rare cut of Star Wars where my friend has the titular line.

Re: Has anyone here ever seen rare cuts of films?

Saw a preview of Doug Trumball's Brainstorm. Had several cuts made for the release.

Spoiler:
Most notable was a sequence involving Walken and Wood's characters as they rekindle their relationship. It takes place on a a boat. Second was a much shorter, life after death, "Trip through Hell" sequence in the death recording of Louise Fletcher's character.

I understand why they cut the boat sequence, but I don't think it would have been disrespectful to have left it. It was very short and took place on a row boat in a pond. You couldn't actual see the characters, just hear their voices.

The "Hell" sequence should have been left the way it was. It would have made the payoff of the "Heaven" sequence (which I think was shortened somewhat also) that much better.

I used to own a vhs of the Goonies with the deleted scenes included in the film. I think we taped it off Disney or HBO when I was a kid. I remember telling kids at school about the squid and no one believed me. I felt so vindicated when that dvd came out.
I’ll always wish for a full version of that to come out someday.

Re: Has anyone here ever seen rare cuts of films?

In 1995, I got to meet Martin Scorsese and watch the director's cut of Casino at the National Theater Owners Association convention, ShowEast, in Atlantic City. Also saw Mr. Holland’s Opus, The American President, and Rumble in the Bronx months early, and interviewed Ron Howard and Rob Reiner, and met Richard Dreyfus.

EDIT: Just went back in the thread and saw I actually commented back in December 2005 LOL... under my old alias N2DVD...

I have the festival print of "Black Dynamite", featuring some alt/ext scenes.

Also have a copy of the "workprint" of Zombie's "Halloween", which is the best cut of that film. All the gore, none of that ridiculous rape scene, better ending. Zombie apparently doesn't consider this a workprint and acted confused when people brought it up.

Re: Has anyone here ever seen rare cuts of films?

I don't think it's "rare" per se, but there's no physical release of the TV-extended Babes in Toyland from 1986 (featuring Drew Barrymore and Keanu Reeves!). The digital/physical release is the much shorter 94 minute theatrical cut instead of the whopping 140 minute TV cut. There are a bunch of songs missing, including this gem that I distinctly remember from watching my taped-off-TV VHS version in my youth.

and for those who care, the full extended cut is on YouTube here:

I still miss seeing the ABC cut of Caddyshack. I haven't seen it since nor have I found any of the scenes added in that television edit in any extras.

I love the Tv cut of Caddyshack as well. Over the years I have found the deleted scenes on YouTube.

Re: Has anyone here ever seen rare cuts of films?

I was just watching this video last week and early in it Bill Simmons mentions that Showtime (IMDB says HBO) back in he 90s ran it with multiple deleted scenes. I did a little digging and it seems they may have been on youtube a few years ago but were all taken down. Does this full version exist anywhere out there?

Re: Has anyone here ever seen rare cuts of films?

I saw an early cut of All Dogs Go To Heaven while on a press junket for another flick. It had a longer segment of the dogs in Hell that was amazing. When I saw a local advance screening maybe 6 months to a year later I was surprised to see that segment was MIA. I was told they were worried it was too intense for children. It was, but it was the best part of the movie.
