this didn't go to test screenings. it was the ending in place on copies of the film sent all over hollywood to trailer houses and epk companies so they had something to work with. if you could have seen it, you would understand that it was a "double-blind" decoy. meaning that, it was so outlandish and obviously not the real ending that it negated all internal industry speculation that The Village's twist would reveal they were living in present times.

plenty...The new Z Channel Documentary goes to great detail about some of these recut movies, including pat garret & billy the kid, once upon a time in the west, and the wild bunch among others.

I also read a book called the dromedary online a few years back. (this is all fake but a good story) it talked about a can of film labeled as extra dune footage that actually was shots of Luke joining the dark side and killing vader at the end of ROTJ. Its was a fun read, but i have never found it online again. i can't remember the author. someone printed it out and stuck it in a note book for me, but i loaned it out and never saw it again.

My next door neighbor is a long time friend and colleague of one of the actors in among other things, Larry Clark's Another Day in Paradise. So he has the director's cut of that which I wanted to see after meeting his friend. So, though I haven't seen it yet, it is sitting there waiting for me to do so. I won't have anything to compare it to though, as I haven't seen the released version, but if I like it, we'll see.

There is a rough cut of Rattle and Hum that runs over five tapes worth of footage. The director edited it together for the band and it's since leaked out. It's something like 5 1/2 hours long (the edited together version, there's a version with just outtakes that's around 7) with the entire footage of them touring Graceland, getting the choir together in Harlem, all the concert footage (including songs not on the cds or dvds), Bono and The Edge jamming on a few songs on someone's porch, etc. If you're a mad fan like my wife, it's pretty cool.

I have a 5 hour work print of Apocolypse Now. Most of it was cut back into the Redux, but there's still plenty that wasn't. Also, it is live sound, so most of Robert Duvall's scene is hard to make out.

I've seen a rough cut of Episode III. There was TONS of footage that was cut out. It's a much better movie...if you already enjoyed the theatrical version.

My favorite rare cut is probably the Phantom Edit. It made Episode I a great movie.

I also liked the IMAX 'shortened' cut of 'Attack of the Clones' with alot of the sappy love story scenes excised.

I think the only one I've seen was Rocky Horror in the theater in Athens GA, the print they had had the "Super Heroes" song included, which I had heard was only on limited prints. This was before the 2-disk anniversary DVd came out.

Yes, the outtakes are "out there" but The rough cut is just that, a version of the movie that is a different cut. It has some of the stuff from the outtakes. It has totally (mostly) different songs. Way more from the Tempe shows (Which is cool, since I was at those shows) It has a version of Exit from Tempe which is much better than the Denver version. Also Mothers of the Disappeared and a few other songs that didnt make the cut.

I was able to attend Showeast back in 1995, and saw the workprint version of Casino. Longer, and a bit more (!) violent. Got to meet Martin Scorcese, too!

The only one i can think of is the Producer's Cut of Halloween 6. Still not a great film but much better than the theatrical version.

I have a copy of that as well. I still need to transfer it to DVD at some point so I can watch it again. Don't have a VCR anymore.

I wouldn't really classify this as a "rare" print because "Super Heroes" was included during the film's theatrical release. However, once the film was shown on television and video in America, the ending was just not there. It wasn't until the 1995 laserdisc or the 1998 VHS copy that people who missed the film during it's theatrical run were able to finally watch the scene in question (along with the deleted "Once in a While").

I saw the theater owners' prerelease screening of "Batman" about a month before it came out with my friend whose dad owned a Drive-In. It had a few scenes I've never seen again including one where a little kid encounters Batman in an alley and asks him, "Is it Halloween?"

I have a 3rd generation VHS of a rough cut of "Fight Club". It's labeled February of 1999, Propert of Fox. 8 months before it came out in theaters. Actually, it's not that much different from the theatrical version. Some of the Narrators dialogue is different. A few alternate takes were used. It was interesting to see the plane crash with virtually no special effects added.

Also, the opening credits has Foo Fighters' "Everlong" as the temp track. Also, the opening credits weren't done either.
