"The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe"...what did I watch when I was a kid?

When I was a kid in elementary school, every few years or so in a particular grade we would watch C.S. Lewis' "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe". It wasn't something we could watch in one sitting as I think it was long.

I think it was a cartoon, but I am not sure. I remember Aslan seemed pretty real, but I really don't know. I think if they were cartoons, I think they were drawn rather adult and not cartoony (if you know what I mean).

I see a few versions on DVD, but again have no idea. When I watched it it was on actual film reel.

My question is...does anybody know what exactly I was watching and is it on DVD?

Please help with pics and link...thanks in advance.

It was indeed a cartoon, not sure if it's on DVD. I think there were cartoon versions of other Narnia books as well.

Yeah I remember a Cartoon version from when I was a kid too.

I'm pretty sure that cover is just an illustration for the dvd. There is only one animated film for Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and that's it.

The BBC-produced live-action series was on PBS all the time during the early 90's. However, only the first four books of the series was ever produced. Also, the live-action was blended with animation as well...that may be why you were not sure if it was a cartoon or not.

I own the DVD. It is indeed the cartoon I watched as a child in the late 70s. It's not the greatest produced DVD on Earth, but it's great to own. I would suggest picking it up at a Christian book store, though (I got mine at Family Christian) as it seems to be a tad cheaper there.

Yes, there was indeed a 1979 annimated production.

However, I think you are thinking of the BBC production from 88

I'm sure you can find these cheaper online, perhaps DeepdiscountDVD.com or dvdpacific.com (which I prefer).

There is of course a zone 2 of the BBC series as well.

I was suprised to find in checking the Internet Movie Database that there was a series from the 60s as well. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0224907/ I have never heard of it. Doesn't appear to be available on disc anyway. Would be very interested in seeing this. Perhaps it may resurface with the interest that will surely result when the Disney film is released in a few weeks.

Looks very forward to that.

does anyone know what is up with this other dvd listed?
it's animated, and says 2005 for the year?
does anyone know what this is?

based on the cover art between those 2 animated dvds, they are the same cartoon. it's probably some revamped version to coincide with the movie hype.

Not sure which version I have, but it has a trailer for the PBS version with LOTR (Peter Jackson) playing. Mixed with it's cheesy effects, it made me smile.

I never made the Christian association with the movies, but they really slam it home on the DVD.

ps) i just got the original 79 cartoon for $8.44 @ Wal*Mart (apparently it is a re-release)!! i am in heaven!!!

The cartoon you and I probably watched as a kid was the 1979 cartoon, shown on CBS a couple times in the early 80's.

The BBC ran a separate production in 1988 (my friend was an animator on that), which featured live action elements.
