I dunno. Taking into account the notion for a predominately female cast, if the character who is the target of the joke were a butch dyke...

"I have too much respect for the original one to do a sequel" But a reboot is okay.

I'm not mad he wants to do a all female GB squad. I am mad he claims he loves the original, but has zero problem doing a reboot.

I don't even like GB2, and that had the same talent as the first movie.

There has never been a movie that I have wanted to see less than this. Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy? Two of my least favorites. If I were going to put together a movie of the worst things possible, this is what I would come up with.

The all-female version of Men in Black must have done well enough ... I've been seeing commercials on TV for its sequel.

Not true. I felt the same way about the "Robocop" and "Total Recall" reboots.

Although I do admit I very much dislike Rebel Wilson. People keep claiming shes funny, but everything I've seen her in has proven that claim false.

Maybe the Sony hackers can threaten them against going forward with this mistake.

Yep, sounds like we'll be getting exactly what we guessed: A "Ghostbusters" version of BRIDESMAIDS. How original.

And here I had some hope when they said Jennifer Lawrence was being considered.

Lawrence is still being considered. As well as Emma Stone.

I, for one, am ecstatic to learn McCarthy is in talks...

... because it means I can easily avoid this without a second guess.

I was just being sarcastic over the moral/social police jumping in and inferring that was the case for everyone being unhappy about an all female cast.

Melissa McCarthy is the Chris Farley of the fairer sex--and faaaaaaar less funny.

I don't have the same vitriol for McCarthy as everyone else (only saw her in Bridesmaids), but it is lazy and uninspired casting.

That's okay, I still don't like Rebel Wilson.

If McCarthy is a less funny Farley, then Rebel Wilson is a less funny McCarthy.

Re: Ghostbusters III (D: Feig, S: Bullock, McCarthy, Wilson)

Its funny how unbelievably far this is gonna be from a movie I'd be interested in seeing. Its not even in the vaccinity of something I would support by giving it my business. The first two (equally) are cornerstone films in my love of cinema. If part 3 was made after the passing of Harold Ramis, but retained the rest of the cast, I still would BARELY be interested in seeing it. I would be highly skeptical. I don't think a sequel without Ramis is worth making. But a remake without ANYONE (besides maybe an Aykroyd cameo) from the original cast, replaced by a bunch of hack female comedians in a New York that isn't 80's New York. Good grief I'd rather stuff a squirrel and the Star Wars PT down my pants as a source of entertainment.

If you hire McCarthy, you make her act like her role in the Heat.

McCarthy is such inspired casting and not at all predictable. Fuck this film.

Re: Ghostbusters III (D: Feig, S: Bullock, McCarthy, Wilson)

From Dark Horizons:

Director Paul Feig has been speaking quite publicly about his all-female reboot of the "Ghostbusters" franchise, and in a recent interview with Empire he confirmed that the plan is still to keep the supernatural action within New York City:

"To me it's such a New York movie and the biggest sin would be to pull it out of there. I just love New York and, selfishly, I just want to shoot in New York."

Feig, who is currently co-writing the script with Katie Dippold, adds that there'll certainly be nods to the old movie - but not too many:

"We're not recreating the old movie, but we want to do just enough fun nods that the fans will go, ‘Oh, okay, they're acknowledging that the other movie existed.' I like to watch parodies, but I don't want to do them because they're too referential. Comedy that's too referential has such a short shelf life, whereas comedy that's based around characters will be relatable 2000 years from now because people won't change that much."

Feig also says that every time the film is mentioned, the question of why reboot the series is asked and he already has an answer:

"A lot of people ask why I didn't create my own thing, but Ghostbusters never ran out of steam, it's such a great idea, It's such a fun franchise so why not bring it to a new generation? The old movie is never going to not exist. It's not my plan to erase every copy! Hopefully they can all live together."

Feig also says that actress Melissa McCarthy's involvement all depends on her schedule and whether that can be worked out.

******************************************

You know how stupid people aren't able to realize they're stupid? Feig is taking it to a new level. He's trying so desperately to make it sound like this is something new, but he's blatantly riding the series coattails and pretending the opposite is true. "Fun nods"? Fuck off.
