Did anyone else want a cigarette after seeing this? I haven't smoked in seven years, but I wanted one after leaving the movie.
Hahaha, effective advertising at its finest.

Finally saw this tonight.

I really loved this film and got caught up in it immediately and never lost interest. Clooney did an excellent job of "keeping it real". The acting was the best I've seen in a while and I loved the directing throughout (George, I never thought I'd be saying this but.......you're a pretty damn good director).

Ed Morrow was a very smart man and obviously ahead of his time.

I may have to actually buy this flick. 4 out of 4 stars for me, I just didn't see anything wrong with this film and It really made me feel like I was right there in the heat of the moment - the film just really makes you think and also makes you wonder how people must have felt back then.

I also recently saw this, last week, I believe. I found it very boring and uninteresting. The acting was great, but I just didn't like it...and it has nothing to do with the black and white factor that many might dislike. I can't put my finger on it...I was just...bored.

;)

My parents, who came of age during the era of this film, said the same thing. They couldn't believe how well it captured that aspect of life then - EVERYONE smoked EVERYWHERE. My mom said it was like being transported back in time. Which makes complaints like it was "too 50s" all the more idiotic. Was the Patriot "too colonial?" Unforgiven, "too western?"

In short, it's a brilliantly written and crafted film that does a better job of evoking the paranoia and political grandstanding of McCarthyism than any film ever made - or any that could be made that instead opted for preachy melodrama (i'm envisioning John Travolta in a Courtroom or something ;) ). This is a simple slice of the times film that perfectly captures the events at the core of one of the most embarrassing periods in our history. If that bores you, i'm awfully sorry....

Really liked what I saw, much better than the other Clooney film last year. Wish it was a half hour longer though...

Loved this movie even though I'm put off by Clooney's political statements at times. It's great for political history buffs.

Saw this tonight, and as a person with a Journalism degree, I loved it.

Did a great job of showing the potential power of journalism, along with showing the difficulties in it achieving it's full potential. The 15 minute doc on the DVD gets at this well too.

The acting was superb, and it was a very timely movie. Bringing up McCarthyism is very relevant today with the wiretaps, Guantanamo bay etc.

Nah. Having the real McCarthy actually added to the film's allure. You can definitely see there's someone wrong with the guy. I'd rather see his real psychosis than some actor pretending to be delusional.
