We know what YOUR favorite movies are. How about your folks?

Seeing how love for movies is something that can easily be passed on down to generations, I'd just like to hear what some of your parents' favorites are. Are there some suprises?

I asked my mom this and (Besides Wizard/Oz) she told me her childhood favorite was Where angels go, trouble follows. Other favorites are Peggy Sue Got Married and (To my surprise) Once upon a time in America.

It was tougher to get an answer from my dad, but I remembered when I was a kid, he LOVED The Great Santini. He also seems to like a lot of Tony Scott stuff like Crimson Tide and Top Gun. And no, he's never been in the military.

Care to share?

One of my dad's favorite movies is the 1966 remake of Stagecoach. Thank bob the Encore channels have finally started running it, because I doubt there'll ever be a proper DVD release of this.

I think it may help to share the year your parents were born.

My dad, born in 1943, loves Pork Chop Hill and Away all Boats!. He likes a lot of recent stuff, too - pretty much passed-down the movie-lover trait to me. I remember him taking me to Die Hard 2 at age 9, The Silence of the Lambs at age 10, and Se7en at age 13. As a teacher, he had a good gauge of relative maturity. I'd say 1950's war movies are his favorites, though. I've seen a lot of Audie Murphy movies because of him. He has a kick-ass, original, Italian To Hell and Back poster framed. He also liked The Princess Diaries, though, I suspect, because he always had a crush on Julie Andrews. He likes to tell a story about how, one summer in college, the one and only local movie theater showed only Mary Poppins. He often changes the number, but I place the actual number of times he saw it between 6 and 20.

My mother, born in 1955, really really hates The Wizard of Oz, because The Wicked Witch of the West still scares her. Otherwise, she was always more of a TV person. We bonded over The X-Files and currently bond over Lost. She enjoys the The Lord of the Rings movies quite a bit, and the cheesy sci-fi/horror movies shown on the Sci-Fi Channel. I watch those, too, sometimes.

cheers,

-the Jesus

My dad's a Charles Bronson freak, and he loves the Death Wish series. Dunno what my mom's favourites are though, but she loves Lost.

My parents love Grumpy Old Men.

Not only because its a pretty good flick...but because in the widescreen version you can see my fathers business (at least the building) in the first shot with the train. He loved that.

They also love Under the Tuscan Sun. We were watching it in the theatre and out of the blue my mom says... "Hey..we've been there in person!"...really loud...the whole theatre looked back

My dad, born in 1949, really loves "Grand Prix," "The Power of One," and "The Producers." He really enjoys a lot of the classic movies that I watch, but those are the ones he declares to be his absolute favorites.

My mom (1952) doesn't really watch many movies, but I know she really enjoys "The Sound of Music."
