Grizzly Man
Went and saw Grizzly Man last night with my new boytoy, and thought it was... interesting....
For those who are unfamiliar, it's a documentary about Timothy Treadwell, who spend his summers in the Alaskan wilderness living with and videotaping grizzly bears. Eventually, he and his girlfriend were killed by the very grizzlies they were trying to protect. Sad story. Thing was, the way the documentary was filmed, there were points were it seemed as tho the director was really poking fun at Timothy and poking fun at the people of Alaska, his friends, the locals, etc etc. Some shots lingered a little too long, the coroner had cross-eyes and they closed up on his face a lot... little things that made the whole movie kind of a black comedy in places. Weird, very weird. Some VERY cool shots of bears and the beautiful landscape of Alaska, tho.... gorgeous. Also some adorable baby foxes. I love baby foxes. So cute. Anybody else seen it? |

Apparently you aren't familiar with Werner Herzog's style/work.
I still want to see his "Wings of Hope" |
Exploring the films of Werner Herzog might turn out to be one of the best movie-related adventures you ever take. A good place to start is "My Best Fiend" which is a documentary about his incredibly volatile relationship with actor Klaus Kinski. The two collaborated on five films, all five masterpieces, all highly highly recommended:
Aguirre The Wrath of God Nosferatu (1979 version) Woyzeck Fitzcarraldo Cobra Verde If anyone is obsessive enough to really take a look at Treadwell, it's Herzog. |
