If true, Bond is dead to me.

Groucho 10-11-05 02:24 PM

Not yet official:

Craig, 37, whose choice will be confirmed by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson later this week, will be the sixth Bond, but the first blond.

Again, if true, they could have done much worse. Craig would bring an edge to the role that could be very interesting. ...that is, of course, if someone writes a decent story and returns the franchise to its character driven roots. If they keep going the way they are, it doesn't matter if Jake Lloyd's playing Bond, it'll suck just as much.

Dr. DVD 10-11-05 02:32 PM

Having seen Layer Cake, I can say that he will definitely fit the original Fleming mold of the character. He might dye his hair black for the role, but I'm willing to give him a movie before thinking he sucks.

The Antipodean 10-11-05 02:48 PM

Could be interesting, I still like the idea of Clive Owen even more, but after "Layer Cake," can certainly see Craig doing it. At least it's not Hugh Jackman. :yack:

I cant really put my finger on why, but I really like this move (that is, if it happens). Im not against Brosnan doing another film but after Goldeneye the movies seemed to slide downhill.

FinkPish 10-11-05 02:59 PM

So you didn't like him in Layer Cake? I have to disagree.

Kudama 10-11-05 03:07 PM

I'll be stoked if this is true. He's established his acting chops (IMO) without becoming a household name. The last thing I wanted was for a big name, world famous actor to take on the role. This character needs to overshadow the fame of the actor for the franchise to shine again.

He should dye his hair though, it's not like he'll be playing John Constantine.

You mean this John Constantine?:

;)

I actually wouldn't mind if he kept the blonde; if the producers are trying to revive the series, it wouldn't hurt to make a Blonde Bond.

RocShemp 10-11-05 03:21 PM

I liked this choice. He's an exellent actor and would definitely fit the character as Ian Flemming originally wrote him (assuming that's the route they're taking with this film).

Die his hair black and he could look like the Ian Fleming commissioned impression of 007:

I've only seen Craig in Road to Perdition, but physically I think he fits Bond okay.

The article mentioned Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, Colin Farrell and Orlando Bloom, ALL of which would've been terrible choices for Bond. Especially Bloom.

rennervision 10-11-05 03:27 PM

I'm predicting an "even-numbered" James Bond curse for this one. The odd-numbered actor is widely accepted (#1 Sean Connery, #3 Roger Moore, #5 Pierce Brosnan) where as the even-numbered actor never lasts more than two films and nearly kills the franchise (#2 George Lazenby, #4 Timothy Dalton, #6 Daniel Craig?).

Wonder if this time the series will survive to see #7?

cdollaz 10-11-05 03:36 PM

Good thing they went with someone who is well known!

That is what I was thinking. Is the the next George Lazenby?

flixtime 10-11-05 03:56 PM

I liked Brosnan as Bond but this franchise lost me starting with the second half of "Tomorrow Never Dies". The PC, family-friendly, neutered Bond films have got to go. They've got to do a complete re-start on the franchise and I for one hope the future entries are character-based, darker, and with more of an edge (but I'm not holding my breath).

That being said, I'm very, very pleased by the choice of Daniel Craig as I really liked him in "Layer Cake" (hope we get to see Sienna Miller too as a Bond girl as I liked their scenes together in "Layer Cake", plus their bedroom scene in "Layer Cake" really left us hanging............well maybe "hanging" is not the right term as some "parts" were a bit "North" of that direction).

Geofferson 10-11-05 04:05 PM

For all the people they were considering, Craig is a great choice. I wanted to see someone besides Brosnan for the next Bond vehicle and am optimistic about Craig.

MasterofDVD 10-11-05 04:42 PM

I thought all the previous people thrown around were poor choices but I'm not too sure about this one either.

I admit I don't know his work all that well but he falls way short of the look even if I try to imagine the darker hair. I really hope this isn't final and they are still looking.

Groucho 10-11-05 04:44 PM

What exactly is "the look"? Apart from Sean Connery and George Lazenby, none of the previous seven actors who have played Bond look anything alike.

What's interesting is that Ian Fleming himself envisioned the "look" of James Bond akin to well-known songwriter Hoagy Charmichael. It's possible that the new actor to play Bond will actually look like Charmichael in his younger days.
