What the hell happened to Wesley Snipes' career?

Unstoppable, 7 Seconds and now The Marksman? How does one fall into Lundgren, Seagal, Van Damme, Bosworth straight-to-video cheapo action schlock?

I remember, in the years after White Men Can't Jump made him a superstar, when critics were wondering why he was wasting his talents in action flicks like Drop Zone, Money Train and Passenger 57 instead of doing more drams and comedies. Maybe it's caught up to him?

nemein 10-03-05 02:07 PM

It got outsourced to Europe as far as I can tell ;) Isn't it rumored he's one of those "pain in the ass" people to work w/? Maybe everyone got fed up w/ him.

What the hell happened to Wesley Snipes' career? Wesley Snipes happened, he started to believe the hype.

Achtung 10-03-05 02:27 PM

The Rock and Vin Diesel happened. They're getting the parts he used to.

resinrats 10-03-05 02:29 PM

He always bets on black. Well, red has won too often recently.

Groucho 10-03-05 02:35 PM

Yeah, I wish I hadn't bet on black.

scott shelton 10-03-05 02:40 PM

Snipes turned into an ego-driven monster, and his grosses didn't justify that behavior.

Now he goes where the check leads him.

zombiezilla 10-03-05 03:13 PM

The "Snipes on crack" rumors, along with his severe temper, are not helping him either.

smirnoff 10-03-05 07:03 PM

Did he honestly think he could top Demolition man.....

I am serious btw. That movie is awsome.

"Those were the days before Wesley Snipes. Me and Eddie were the blackest brothas out there."

He got mixed up in Georgia with a cult calling themselves the Nuwaubians. They are led by York, who is a con man who has spent most of his life making up more creative cults to bilk people of money and their daughters. Here's a link with a bit of info.

http://www.apologeticsindex.org/n02.html

And yes, they are crazy. I had to work with one for a couple of years before she went to "dedicate" herself aka have as many children as she could for the cult. She now has about nine kids and they have been kicked out of their compound. As for Snipes, he got mixed up with York a couple of years ago and were going to buy up some of the land next to them. He wanted to build a shooting range there for the cult to learn how to protect themselves, but put it as something to do with his production company. When police raided the compound, Snipes left town and made some movies in South Africa and Europe which is what you been seeing here on video. There's STILL a couple of more coming. Here's a bit about Snipes and the cult:

http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache...hl=en&ie=UTF-8

And this bit:

In 2000, a security / paramilitary group called the Royal Guard Of Amen-Ra, Inc.[1] (owned by Amen Ra Films) filed BATF papers in moves to set up a security training center next to the Tama-Re compound of the United Nuwaubian Nation of Moors in Georgia. The Nuwaubians claimed Snipes as one of their own, though a spokeswoman for Snipes denied any connection.

And you thought Tom Cruse was something!

That was my answer too. He's become a jerk to work with.

This article was linked here before, but I think it's worth posting again:

Drugs, Stand-Ins, Mood Swings and Legal Action: The Real Wesley Snipes.

Fincher Fan 10-10-05 04:34 AM

That article was a good re-read, thanks! With that attitude, he's where he belongs.

RyoHazuki 10-10-05 11:44 AM

1. He beat Halle Berry deaf.

2. Halle Berry becomes a big deal.

3. Wesley can't get a job anymore.

raven56706 10-10-05 12:14 PM

Exactly... In a interview for Blade 3, Triple H said that he was the only one Snipes didn't treat like shit on the set... He also said he was the only 6'3" 275lb wrestler on the set... Might have had something to do with it.

I've heard other interviews that make him sound very difficult to work with...

Funny...these were the reasons I was going to give...

To each his own I guess. I'm one of the few who liked Van Helsing. Now there's a concept for a movie - Van Helsing vs Blade. As long as they have Kate Beckinsale in it!
