Favorite Hamlet?

There wer so many Hamlet movies done, this play has had the most movies made out of it, heck just look it up at imdb there are 59. There are other great versions i enjoy, my favorite is Hamlet (1948) with Lawrence Olivier. So many great things in here, the grave diggers droll performance, great cinemetagrophy by the renown Desmond Dickinson, heck even a young Christopher Lee is the spear carrier in this one.

Just for wackiness, Strange Brew.

I haven't seen the version with Ethan Hawke but want to, it's one of the few (only?) versions where the actor playing Hamlet is about the right age ... although reading here:

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acro.../hamletage.htm

Mel Gibson was pretty close. I always thought that Hamlet should be in his early twenties.

Branagh first by a wide margin.

Gibson second.

My favorite is the Olivier version, even though it's the least faithful of the adaptations. I like that Branagh's version doesn't cut anything, but all the cameos are infuriating.

I'm sorry, but Patrick's Stewart's afro makes that version impossible to take seriously.

I have to admit that I had a hard time taking his script changes seriously.

Of the two recent versions, I prefer Branagh over Gibson. But both are pretty watchable, to be honest.

Branagh's. I want to barf on Gibson's version.

We got to watch both versions in my AP Lit class along with parts of Olivier's version after reading the play.

I love everything about Branagh's - the fact that he uses almost the entire play, the costumes, Jacobi, etc. etc. And desperately want it on DVD.
