X-men or X-men 2?
Now that the hype has long died down for X-Men 2, I ask you which is the better X-Men movie?
FX plays X-Men at least 5 times a week and somehow manage to watch it at least 3 times. So, last week I was sick of watching X-Men all the time and put in X-Men 2. Wow, how disappointing. This movie was not nearly as good as I remembered. Sure, the Nightcrawler scene in the beginning is quite awesome but all that is negated (in fact most of the fight scenes are negated) when you learn that Brian Cox has these mutants under a silly spell. Which is where I believe the movie is at it's biggest fault. That whole storyline with Stryker controlling the mutants fails so many times. Basically, there aren't any "bad" mutants in the movie only 1 bad guy who controls all of them. Which in my mind undermines the entire film. Also, the first movie focused on Wolverine and Rogue. X-Men 2 kinda puts Rogue in the background as they focus more on the story and attempt to flesh out a Wolverine back story. IMO, X-Men is far superior to X-Men 2. It's no masterpiece but it has character and heart and a less of a ridiculous plot. |
X-Men was a great film, but after seeing X-Men 2, it made the first feel like a ten minute intro to me.

X2 all the way.

Well, there were actually only two mutants being controlled by Stryker (three if you count his son), and he didn't even control Magneto after he broke out of prison, so I don't think that counts as "all of them". They also made sure during X2 that you knew the bad guys were still bad. They worked together with the X-Men until they absolutely didn't have to any more, they grabbed Pyro, and blew the heck out of there.
I'm glad they got the Wolverine story out of the way; they focused pretty heavy on it in both movies, the first movie being more flashbacks than actual explanation. If they're making a third movie, this will leave them room to focus on someone else, like Jean returning. As far as plots and character development, I think they did as well as they could to keep a good balance of story and effects. After all, they're comic book movies. |
X2 is much much better in my opinion.
Probably the best Marvel film to date. |
X2.
First movies in comic series always get dragged down by having to cover the origins. |

The first movie was good, but the second movie was better. |
X-Men 2 had too much of a political message in it. Which dates the movie (or will date the movie).
|
X-MEN 2 by a country mile; the problem with the first was that it was edited way too rapidly; it gives the sense of miles of deleted footage on some cutting room floor. The second took the time necessary to tell a full, well-rounded story.

X2. Nightcrawler + Wolverine during the mansion attack was fun to watch :)

Another vote for X2 all the way. XMen laid the groundwork, but I agree the film feels short...as if its just 2.3rds a movie or an appetizer to them main course, X2.
X2 was the fully fleshed out, full on story and action sequences I wanted to see. And it was great fun. X2 all the way...though Xmen is still a solid film, and watching them together is good fun. |

X2. I like to call the first movie eX-creMENt.
|
X2 by far.
X2 flowed better and i think its more interesting. |
X2>X-Men
You can close the thread now :) |
X2 is far superior, IMO.
|
I like the first one a lot. However, I love the sequel.
|
The first one by a hair, because of the line "what do they call you, wheels?"
|
Both awesome, but I give the edge to X2 for the Wolverine/Deathstrike fight alone.
|
X2. First movie is great until the final half-hour or so, which really blew. I never liked the big Statue of Liberty finale.

X-Men ***1/2 out of *****
X2 ****1/2 out of ***** K |
They were both ok. Didn't like one over the other.
