So what are the requirements for membership in the Suicide Club? Random suicide attempts?

They are always looking for new members.
For some reason, renewals are way down.

That was a messed up movie. That clip is the opening scene, and the music playing during it makes it even more creepy.

Not too old, probably 3 years ago. It caused quite a controversy back then in Japan as the film tacked the country's suicide epidemic by suggesting suicide clubs do exist and they are propagated in the internet. Sadly, it turned out to be true.

Another thing in regards to the film itself is that halfway through, the story changes course into the really dark and weird subplot that a lot of people either loved it or hate it.

Holy crap.

And family-friendly Blockbuster Online has it in stock.

So there really were/are suicide clubs in Japan? That's messed up.

Is there an actual movie/plot to it, or just a bunch of kids offing themselves? And is it 'good' or just 'disturbing'?

Blockbuster has the R rated version, not the unrated version.

Suicide Club is really hard to fathom as to why throngs of teenagers start killing themselves unless you are aware of the Japanese sociological problems the director wishes to partake.

It's filled with symbolism and vague explanations that Japanese films are very known for (pretty much..a lot is left on your own opinion). As a whole, the movie is a social criticism made for the Japanese regarding lack of "connection" amongst the population
due to technology, and the young people's devotion to pop culture.

Plus, Japanese view death very differently fm Western culture due to the large historical influence of Buddhist/Shinto religion wherein death is not the end of everything.

Unfortunately, Suicide Circle was first seen as a horror movie (and so was Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Pulse). And as a horror movie itself before Western eyes, it just won't make much sense.

Sadly yes, but their membership numbers usually drop after the first club meeting.

I saw a special on the suicide circles/clubs on tv a while ago.

I just want to say something too; I'm not sure if that subway thing really happened but I took a look at this thread while I was at work and that gif really has me disturbed.

Does that scene look even creepier on DVD? I want to watch this flick but man, that is some crazy shit.

I liked the flick... until the 3rd act. It just gets weird and falls apart. It's a bummer because it was going so well until the bowling alley.
