An American made movie starring Chinese actors in Japan whom all speak English.

Looks good.

(Well, at least they aren't Australian )

Michelle Yeoh is Malaysian. Kji Yakusho, Kaori Momoi, Youki Kudoh, and Ken Watanabe are Japanese.

What about Zhang Ziyi (or Ziyi Zhang, whichever)?

Anyhow, i thought this was a Spielberg project? Or am i thinking of something completely different?

It's a Dreamworks/Amblin production...so yeah technically it's a Spielberg project. I believe he was attached to direct at first though.

However, with the exception of Ken Watanabe, they are all playing minor roles.
The mayor roles are played by non-Japanese actors but then again, this is a Hollywood production, so I'm just glad that at least they have an Asian cast.

Well, there's always 1492: Conquest Of Paradise, an American film made by an English director with a Frenchman starring as an Italian who worked for the Spanish, in an english-language film.

My mistake. I knew I shoulda done research first. But no less, Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi were my main concerns, mostly because I'm an immature brat with a crush on both of them.

True.

Though truth be told, I never really cared about that kind of detail as long as it's a good flick.

I absolutely loved the novel. I read it in one night. Hopefully the screenplay can carry across the emotions Sayuri goes thru in the book. Plus, I wonder how they will do
Spoiler:
the scene where she is deflowered
and the
Spoiler:
scenes involving the Chairman's handkerchief
. These are the defining moments of the character. The trailer looks incredible. I cant wait.

Worth checking it out just for an appearance by Gong Li. Wonderful, beautiful actress.

Alright, I love this novel...I too read it multiple times and straight thru the first time. But I too disagree with the casting, as a person of asian decent I find it to be the same thing as casting a caucasian as Malcolm X.

I always had in my mind a "Raise the Red Lantern" type of feel for this movie, but I guess the glossy epic will have to do. Loved the book and the film looks pretty good, but there's something that bugs me.
Being nitpicky, but that "you are ready" line after the guy crashes his bike is really strange. It almost feels like she is training to be a kung fu master, and now she is ready to kick ass. I kinda think that the trailer is trying, at first, to deceive the audience into thinking it's gonna be a martial arts type movie (because of the main stars involved).
