Best Kevin Spacey role

Had a lot of good responses from the Jodie Foster poll, so here's another one. What role is the best that this Oscar winner has had? For me, its close between The Usual Suspects and American Beauty, although I really like his part in Midnight in the Garden. Again, role/performance...not the film itself.

Hands down, John Doe.

"DETECTIVE!!!!!"

Goddamn classic. The gimmick of not being in the initial credits helps, but if I was an actor I would kill for that roll. Plus, he shined like mad. The way his voice cracked when he was talking about the "innocent people?" was awesome. Too many good lines, so well acted and in such brief screen time.

I'm going to need a little leeway on this one........I voted "other" as I - and many others (once we tore our eyes away from Joan Severance) I'm sure - first became a fan as a result of his astounding work on the late 80's TV-series "Wiseguy" - so Mel Profitt, Chairman & CEO of S&M Enterprises, it is.

Yeah, I realize that movie has been out for years and can't really be considered "spoiler-able" anymore, but that is one of the best surprises ever in a movie. Maybe you could change to his other characters name in the poll options?

I voted for John Doe. He played it with an unsettling amount of calm.

I couldn't decide between Lester Burnham, John Doe, and Keyser Soze . . . so I picked all three. The man simply has amazing amounts of talent.

Toss up between Jack Vincennes and Lester Burnham. Both were excellent performances, plus he drove that really cool '53 Studebaker in L.A. Confidential.

Lloyd Chasseur from The Ref

"You think every morning I wake up, look in the mirror and say "Gee I'm glad I'm me and not some 19-year-old billionaire rockstar with the body of an athelete and a 24-hour erection!" No I don't! So just excuse the shit out of me!"

I didn't even have to think. His best role was as Larry Mann in The Big Kahuna. Not coincidentally, that movie also has Danny DeVito's best all time role.

His turn as Verbal Kint is good, but that's only because he was a major plot point. Benicio Del Toro's Fenster, I thought, was superior.

Spacey's Best Performance - As Lester Burnham in American Beauty.

Spacey's Worst Performance - Trying to convince everyone he was walking his dog in the park at 4 am when 'someone" stole his cell phone.
