Event Horizon Question -- Looking for similar movies
Does anyone have any suggestions for movies that are similar to Event Horizon? In other words, space-themed horror that is decent?
That being asked, has anyone seen any further news on whether this will actually be released as an SE? |
uhhhhhhh Alien, and I'd say Solaris are probably the closet. Event Horizon is one of my favorite movies. Everything that Paul Anderson made after event horizon sucks. (yes i saw his first movie with jude law, called shopping)

Critters 4
(no, not really) |
Although I believe it took place under water rather than space, Sphere plays with the creepy spaceship theme.

Outland (Connery) is a spaced themed horror movie. Haven't seen it in awhile so it might suck.
Saturn 3 is another one. Not sure if it's any good or if it ever was any good. Been too long. |

I LOVE Solaris. I think it's an awesome love story with a "sci fi" setting. Anyway, I guess it is as close as you're gonna get but just know that it's nowhere near "scary/graphic" as Event Horizon was. |
Hellraiser: Bloodline

My memory sucks, But in the horror space venue there was a movie where an entity gets on a space ship and appears to be members of the crews mother, girl friend etc and then kills or possesses them. real creepy stuff anyone remember the name.

The Alien series was an obvious choice...owned. I thought Solaris was incredibly boring. Sphere is good and also owned, and yes, a water theme. Outland, I agree, is more a western than a horror. Haven't seen the others. Thanks for the input.

Not too similar, but Jason X definitely fits under the space horror sub-genre.

"Saturn 5" has been mentioned -- that's more in the robot-on-the-loose genre, and while no classic has a good cast and production. There's Vin Diesel's "Pitch Black" (though its more alien-planet based, than space so maybe it doesn't fit the bill). And crappy movies like "Supernova", "Creature", "Android" (but has a funny performance by Klaus Kinski), "Nightflyers", Hellraiser/Leprechaun/Dracula in space. If you want to go old-school there are some good ones. Mario Bava's "Planet of the Vampires" and Curtis Harrington's "Queen of Blood" are atmospheric 60's vampire-in-space movies. From the 50's you have "It! The Terror from Beyond Space" (a precursor to "Alien") and "Forbidden Planet" (a true classic, that still is striking for its ideas and production). I'm sure there are more, but that's what comes to me right now. |
Does Cube count?

I'm gonna have to go off the path here and say "In the Mouth of Madness." It isn't set in space but it has the same fucked up style of horror as event horizon. Sam Niell even stars in both.

Either or, I can't say I believe Supernova ever was going to be any good. The basic story blows...all this fancy scifi stuff and the idea of Supernova...and really all it is is a damn slasher film. |
I realllly wanted to like Supernova, definitely agree it was a missed opportunity.
Great genre for sure! |
Another good underwater (submarine) flick is Below

Perhaps Ghost Ship may interest you as well (not set in space, but still a cool premise). |
Glad to see I'm not the only Event Horizon fan. I don't understand why Paul WS could do such a great job here and be so average-to-terrible at everything else.
