Sam name, different characters... any more coincidental names?

I was watching Heat the other day and noticed that AL Pacino's character was Vincent Hanna. "Vincent Hanna" was also a minor character in an episode of "Blackadder". Simple coincidence.

Another sitcom I own, "The High Life", is based on an airplane piloted by a tipsy chap named Captain Hillary Duff, a good few years before another Hillary Duff ever got in showbiz.

There's also Change of Habit, starring Elvis as "John Carpenter" - not to be confused with teh director that would make an Elvis biopic years later.

Any more?

The only one off the top of my head is Raymond Burr's character in "Godzilla": Steve Martin. Needless to say, he was not a wild and crazy guy.

jean paul belmondo uses the alias laszlo kovacs in breathless, but i think that was an intentional nod.

The cop and the cabbie, who are seen together, in It's a Wonderful Life (1946) are named Bert & Ernie. In The Day of the Locust (1975) Donald Sutherland plays Homer Simpson. In What a Way to Go (1964), Paul Newman is Larry Flint. In The Jackie Robinson Story (1950) the team Robinson plays for in the Negro Leagues is named The Black Panthers.

Donald Pleasence's character in HALLOWEEN is named Sam Loomis, as an homage to the character with the same name played by John Gavin in the original PSYCHO.

Along those same lines, Jack Nicholson has been a "Jack" in several movies too - Jack Napier in Batman, Jack Torrance in The Shining....

John Carpenter was also the first million dollar winner on Philbin's Who Wants to be a Millionaire (the guy who used his phone call lifeline to tell his dad that he was about to win a million dollars).

It's close, but the Katharine Hepburn character is Tracy Lord, the porn star is Traci Lords. Still very close ... the judges say yes!

The first thing I though of was Day of the Locust and Homer Simpson ... I just about exhaled my drink through my nose when I saw the movie for the first time not knowing about the character.

Don't know if this counts, but Michael Douglas did a string of movies where his character's first name was Nick:

Black Rain
Basic Instinct
The Game

This isn't coincidence. If you know movie/TV trivia, you know Sesame Street's Bert & Ernie were named after the characters in It's A Wonderful Life.

An actor playing the same character in several movies? Wow, that's NEVER been done. [sacrastic cough]Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves, Mike Myers, etc., etc....[/sarcastic cough]

The topic of the thread is different characters, same name. Your example is the same character.

In Kentucky Fried Movie, daredevil Rex Kramer, played by Robert Starr.
In Airplane!, Captain Rex Kramer, played by Robert Stack.

I think Abrahms, Zucker & Zucker just like the name.
