Remakes That You Would Like Done

It's a given that Hollywood has a severe case of "Remake-itis". I personally don't think the idea of remakes itself is a bad idea, just the films that are being chosen for remakes because it's usually ones that were done right the first time.

So which past movies would you like to see a remake of? (For example, an adaptation of a novel in which the first movie version was poorly made.)

Fincher Fan 07-30-05 06:44 AM

I noticed James Wan (Saw) turned down a remake of The Blob (1958). I would like to see not a remake but a continuation. If you remember, the original ended with the mass
Spoiler:
being dropped in the ocean and a question mark title card. They could easily pick up now, almost 50 years later as it returns
. Sorry if this is considered a bit off topic as it would be more of a sequel, but it was the first movie that came to mind.

Something I would like to see redone as a more faithful adaptation of the original novel:

The Bonfire of the Vanities

Tom Wolfe's novel is a great satire of American society, but the current movie version is bad, very very bad. It's like the filmmakers were too afraid of the un-Politically-Correct nature of the book and decided to try to sidestep that by making the characters more cartoonish and less realistic. Add to that some poor casting decisions that throw out a lot of the satire of the book, and it was an awful adaptation, one of the worst ever.

I would love to see a remake of this if the filmmakers just stuck to the source material.

I think there should be a rule that you can only remake a film if the original sucked. Remake The Bad News Bears...no. Remake The Bad News Bears Go To Japan...ok. That way we would eventually get a good movie. It would be like sitting through a shitty opening act, knowing that the headliner will be great.

I'd like to see a remake of Masters Of The Universe. Sure it was a fun movie (albeit very cheesy) but that was mainly because of Frank Langella and Billy Barty. I'd like to see it remade in the spirit of those two performances. Had it been that way in the first place, it would have been one heck of a sci-fi/fantasy film and not just a guilty pleasure.

I'd also love a film (or series of films) based on The Iliad that was truer to the original work than any adaptation before. Same goes for The Odyssey.

Now that musicals are (sort of) back in fashion, a remake of A CHORUS LINE would make sense - the film version as directed by Richard Attenborough (what the hell were they thinking ????) turns one of the milestones of American musical theatre into an almost unwatchable mess.

Star Wars: Episode I - this time without rastafarian lizards, "engrish"-speaking aliens, midichlorians, prodigy children and anything to do with trade organizations or political *gak* "intrigue."

Howard the Duck

My vote is for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (the true title), redone with Tim Burton at the helm, and I'd love to see further books in the Oz series put to movie. And with the ten original songs by L Frank Baum used for the soundtrack.

wow good ideas on Masters of the Universe and Burton doing wizard of oz!

I'd love to see a live action "Castle of Cagliostro". Definitely not going to happen, but if it did, it might elevate my favorite action/adventure/comedy of all time out of the animation ghetto.

Well, there is The Phantom Re-Edit.

I've always wanted to see a serious re-make of JAWS with a great script and director behind it...but then I'd fear it would turn into another JAWS: THE REVENGE, and who needs that?! Besides, probably no way to top the original...

I think there is enough of a gap in generations now that Soylent Green would have the punch it did from the original version. Especially since many of the younger folks don't like to see "older" movies.

Also, a remake of the Italian 1974 flick Miracles Still Happen should cause some interest.

I'd like a better version of Godzilla than the one we got in 1998. I'm sure they'll try a sequel to this one of these days.

That would be cool. I had made up a story that allowed them to consider it a sequel to the 1998 one but have it be much more like the Japanese one.

Basically the baby at the end of the first one got into the bay, swam to that downed nuclear sub (got a good dose of radation) and ate a few sailors. Eating them combines human DNA with Godzilla's so the baby grows up looking like the Japanese Godzilla. The extra radiation gives him the toughness and atomic breath. How cool would a scene be where planes come into to shoot Godzilla in the side thinking it will kill him like the last one. The missles hit but that just pisses of Godzilla who turns and blasts the jets out of the sky.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new "Final Countdown."

Clash of the Titans.

I would like to see To Live and Die in L.A. remade. It just seems very dated now with all the 80's fashions and soundtrack and the flourescent opening titles. I would like to see it updated and have a more modern look at counterfeiting. The car chase would be hard to duplicate, because it is one of the greatest ever.

YES, YES, YES - no to Colin Farrell though in the Harry Hamlin role.

Also, I loved LadyHawke with gorgeous Michelle Pfeiffer and the rest of the cast EXCEPT the male lead Rutger Hauer. Please redo this movie. Michelle could still probably still look amazing as the female lead but Rutger Hauer nearly ruined this movie for me.

I'd love to see a remake of the Color of Money only because i love Pool movies

Would also like to see a remake of Big trouble in little china only because a remake is more likely than a sequel

Yeah I would like to see a remake of the Cary Grant classic Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream house but with Ice Cube in the lead role!

Wait, no i wouldn't.

The Bus 08-08-05 10:00 AM

I personally want to helm the remake of Jurassic Park. I thought the first one was very poorly done.
