Desperation
Not sure if this belongs in books or movies. Is there a movement to make a movie out of Stephen Kings "Desperation". Sure seems ot would make a great movie. One of my favorite books that hasn't been made into a movie that I know of.

A tv mini in the works. A quick search of imdb pulls up a 2005 release.
Directed by: Mick Garris (the Stand, the Shining) Screenplay by: Stephen King Starring: Tom Skerritt .... John Edward Marinville Steven Weber .... Steve Ames Annabeth Gish .... Mary Jackson Ron Perlman .... Collie Entragian Shane Haboucha .... David Carver Kelly Overton .... Cynthia Smith Matt Frewer .... Ralph Carver Sylva Kelegian .... Ellie Carver Charles Durning .... Tom Billingsley Henry Thomas .... Peter Jackson Ewan Chung .... Shih Alain Uy .... Cha'an Runtime: 180 minutes IMDB is your friend. The release date is wrong though, it lists a July 12, 2005 release, with feedback mentioning a 2006 release. |
I thought Mick Garris did an excellent job with Riding The Bullet, which I think slipped in under the radar. I thought it was very spot on in capturing the touch and feel of King's written 'voice'...
I'm looking forward to Desperation.... |
yea.. with king's works.. you pretty much have to make them into a mini series
3 hours.. and probably needed to be another 3 |

I'm looking forward to Desperation.... Not to hijack but I'm looking forward to Darabont's version of the Mist. Love that story. |
This movie was filmed last year, and production was shut down for a while because a ton of the sets burned down. The film is now finished, and it was originally planned to air during May sweeps of 2005, however ABC removed it from the schedule for reasons unknown. It's now looking at a 2006 release (I've read May 2006, which would put it exactly 1 year later than it's orignal release date). What's the holdup?

Thanks, I just started using IMDB so I dodn't go there first. Was having some difficulty negotiating the board.

I heard from Mick Garris after reviewing Riding the Bullet for this site, and we exchanged some emails... in mid-April, he said they were in "late post-production" of Desperation.

from StephenKing.com circa July 26th:
The most recent word from Mick Garris is that ABC plans to air Desperation in May '06 during sweeps week. from Stephen King: I ordinarily don’t comment far in advance on films based on my work, especially TV films, but in the case of Desperation I am going to make an exception because my old partner in crime, Mick Garris, has produced an extraordinary piece of work, and the ensemble cast is outstanding. Ron Perlman as Collie Entragian will haunt your dreams. You might want to consider making time in May (tentative) for this one, which is when ABC plans to run it. One word of warning: this is TV and it’s impossible to tell in advance how much of a given piece of work will be cut. The version of Desperation I saw was graphic and very frightening. This may make the network uneasy. Stephen King |
Hopefully we'll get an uncut DVD of the movie then.
It's been a while since I read the book but I seem to remember a lot of animals acting unusual. I wonder how they pulled it off in the film (making them stand in formation etc.). I hope they didn't use crappy CGI for the effect. |
One of my favorite King books. I wonder, if Desperation works out well, would the Spin-off/alternate reality of it, The Regulators, be possible?
|
Next to The Shining, Desperation is probably my favorite book by Stephen King and I've read most of them. I'll be sure to mark my calendar for May (tentative).
