Walk The Line - Joaquin Phoenix is Johnny Cash
Trailer --> http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/walktheline.html
Looks interesting kinda like this year's Ray. I don't know if Joaquin can pull it off. He's a great actor and all but as Johnny Cash? |
Saw the preview for this today when I saw the Island. I'll tell you what. He seemed extremely convincing in that role from the trailer.
|
Yeah, I saw the trailer and he and Reese look to make it worth seeing.
|
Kind of a fan of Cash's music and the trailer does look rather good. A definate rental if I do not see it in the theater. There is also a fantastic teaser poster for it:

I watched the trailer. His voice kept going back and forth between Cash's trademark deep voice, and Pheonix's own nasally voice.
|
Great trailer and great teaser poster. Looking forward to this!

Jaoquin did his own singing in the movie.

Too bad Tommy Lee Jones isn't about 10 years younger...he would have made a GREAT Johnny Cash! |
Reese Witherspoon also did her own singing in the movie.

Seems to me like Joaquin had the voice down to T. I never saw any interviews with June, so I wouldn't know how Reese was doing.
I am so glad they put Ring of Fire into the preview, and for those who might not catch it, that's the song playing on the jukebox in Oliver Stone's U-Turn when Joaquin's wild redneck character "TNT" enters the diner to face Sean Penn. Don't know if that played a role or not. The song itself reminds me of one of my favorite pubs in Nashville next to the Vanderbilt area; there has never been a time where I have gone into the place and not heard that song played. |
*yawn*
Wake me at the end of the movie... It won't be this year's 'Ray' that is for sure. Phoenix does not have the actin' chops to pull off the role. |
had several friends who worked on this film...on production side and in the recording studios for the music. Reese doesn't do all of her vocals...she did record some stuff and they had a nashville pro come in and sing on top of her to fill it out. Everyone seemed to think it was promising, and in Nashville, Johnny Cash is treated like a King.
i thought it was strange they mentioned both the Rock n roll HOF and the Country HOF but not the Gospel music HOF...only Cash and Elvis are members of all three... not sure how this will go, I have a bad feeling it will be compared to Ray no matter what happens though |
I like Johnny Cash, so I may have to check this out. I'm not sure yet if it's one I'll see in the theater though.
|
Let's hope it's better than Ray.

Love JC and JP so I'm already sold. Only question is whether to theater it or DVD rental it.

looks good. but i think Ring of Fire would have been a cool title for the movie... but maybe they were afraid people would confuse it with Reign of Fire?
|
Saw the trailer this morning and now I'm excited to see the movie. I'm a big Johnny Cash fan. I must be in the minority because I think Joaquin DOES look like a young Johnny Cash.
|
I think there's a slight resemblance. The size difference bugs me though.
|
I'm in....it's just sad that no matter how good this movie is people will just say "it's no Ray".
|
Well, Ray was really nothing without Jamie Foxx, and this really might be nothing without Joaquin, but if it is a good movie all around, then it might have one up on Ray.
|
From what I understand about Cash (which probably isn't a whole lot), "Walk the Line" is a great movie title. He did seem to walk both sides of the "line of the law."
|
i think walk the line is a good title...aside from the song, and the fact that June Carter Cash fills up a lot of the movie...Cash has always been a man torn between his love of God, and his inner demons (drugs etc.)
