So this is the cast for D.O.A.: Dead or Alive?
http://imdb.com/title/tt0398913/combined
I haven't been expecting much from this film but with Corey Yuen directing I've been secretly hoping for a So Close Part II of sorts. This doesn't bode well. I have nothing against Devon Aoki but her as Kasumi? And Jaime Pressly as Tina.  I like Kevin Nash but he's far too young to be Bass. In fact, the only possitive casting I see is Kane Kosugi as Ryu Hayabusa. |
What do you expect for something based on a fighting video game? Looks like straight to video material to me.
|
Believe me, I didn't expect much. But I didn't expect things to be this bad. Espeically not after Corey Yuen was signed to direct. With him at the helm I expected, at the very least, actors that look nothing like their video game counterparts (and only a few that could actually act) but could kick all sorts of ass and make this an enjoyable rental. What I see in that link I posted, is much worse than anything I could have imagined.

Come on...its got Eric Roberts...thats got to account for something. :D
So how are they going to give all the female actors the excessive breasts that this game is known for? Implants all around or CG? :p |
Funny, I didn't even notice his name on the list.
Who knows? I find it funny that even the creator of the game apparently hates the casting of this film. He apparently dislikes the script too but it's not like he or his staff ever gave the DOA games a compelling story, so I can forgive a cheesy script. All I wanted was kickass action and I don't think Yeun can deliver that with the bulk of the lousy cast. |
Well Jaime Pressley looks like Tina.
Other than that...I mean, this is based on DOA. I don't expect it to be any better then gratuitous boobs and fighting. At least Jaime is hot, they got that. |
I say make a film of Kasumi in a swimsuit for 2 hours, and I'm there.

I was thinking the same thing. Why complain when they were actually able to land Jaime Pressley. |
Firstly, Jaime Pressley looks nothing like Tina. They're both blonde and female but the similarities end there. They needed a much taller woman for Tina.
And, no, I did not expect (nor do I want) big names in this film. I was hoping for a cast that looked reasonably enough (cos no women alive look like the bulk of the girls in these games) like their videogame characters that would be physically capable of engaging in believable heavy action martial arts sequences. The only possitive I see is Kane Kosugi. If the casting were more like that, I'd be a whole lot happier. |

As for this movie... Video-game-based movies have hurt me so many times, in so many ways, I've become cold and distant. |
