Cool looking upcoming Russian flicks

From their look, Wolfhound could sort of be a Russian fantasy 'Braveheart' and The 9th Company could sort of be a Russian 'Platoon'. No word right now, if these two will be head to American theaters.

From Twitch Film

Wolfhound

Check it here or here.
And then, as if by magic, some kind Russian soul sent me some further information on the film mere hours after I dug up the new trailer links. It turns out that, while the lead character is definitely some sort of monster hunter, I jumped the gun on pinning him down as a vampire hunter. Apparently the bat featured prominently on the website and in the trailer is actually the lead character's pet.

Here's what Yuric's got to say: "One little correction. It's not really "Vampire Hunter Film ", as You called it. The bat, seen in the teaser and at the film's site is not an indication, that film has any vampires in it. As I can remember, in the book, this film is based on, main hero has a bat as his pet animal. BTW, this movie stars Oksana Akinshina of Lilja 4-Ever fame. If you will look at the teaser close enogh, you will see her nude shot Wolfhound also has a biggest budget for a Russian film to date - 15 mln $."

The 9th Company

A film about Russia's war in Afghanistan. Can everyone say 'timely'? Long demonized in the west for their involvement in the mid-east the Russian campaign in Afghanistan is now being so closely mirrored by the US campaign there that it's just eerie. Hell, the primary opponent was even the same. Think Bin Laden's a new arrival? This is the war that the American government funded and trained him for ...

Not only does this thing have an incredibly fascinating premise but it also just looks great. You can hit the offical - and pretty much bare - website here, find some stills here, and check out the trailer here.

I watched 9th Company last night. It was pretty damn good. I was surprised by the quality of the production. It's been a while since I saw it, but I might even go as far as saying the production overall looked much nicer than Nightwatch.

Jesus Christ, can we keep the political grandstanding out of film reviewing, please? What does this have to do with the movie?
